• Re: MC suddenly not reading .xml files

With your comment about the iMac acting strange, I would quickly back up all important data on the system drive. Then I would reinstall the OS. I would NOT upgrade to a newer OS at this point. Then install Avid before any other programs and see how things go. Just be sure you really have backed up the system drive and all important files. A pain, but

We have have used screen sharing in a Slack setup. Not super elegant but gets the job done. Audio is always the hardest part to setup. Jef

  • Re: Avid responsiveness vs. Premiere

Here is my guess on the issue. Avid was designed early on to be able to provide playback without dropped frames so that it could go to tape successfully. This may take more time to "prepare" than in Premiere. I know that in Premiere, if you have the "Show Dropped Frames" on as well as High Quality Playback selected, you will be surprised

  • Re: MC suddenly not reading .xml files

Sounds like the project got corrupted. Here is what I would try: Make a new project with a slightly different name (.....v2 for example). Use the same settings as the original. Close Avid. Now go to the old project and Copy (not move) all the bins to the new project. Start the new project. Hopefully that gets you going. Let us know. Good luck, Jef

  • Fragile user settings

Why have user settings become so fragile? It seems that “Try creating a new user setting” has become the new “Rebuild the media database” of suggestions for problems with Avid Media Composer. And, just as in the past, a pretty good suggestion when things get weird. I fully understand the concept of New Version = New User. New

  • Re: Online editing and changing starting timecodes on clips

I agree with Pat. You should understand that when you modify TC in Avid to media it has, it is NOT changing the real TC of the media. It is like having a post-it note on the clip saying "hey, just pretend I have this start TC". I learned this the hard way long ago. Jef

  • Re: Avid MC import and consolidate/transcode
It would be good for them to delete the old import command then.
What you probably meant is that they should clean up the user interface and get rid of the Import command EXCEPT for in the Source Browser. Maybe. But as I mentioned above, that would cause lot's of anger and shouting by a group of users who all
Ok great. Will try on both later. It would be good for them to delete the old import command then.
You would think so. But hundreds of editors would complain. That is the problem with any software trying to "update" a UI. Just poke around here and read all the screaming and yelling about the very large

  • Re: Avid MC import and consolidate/transcode

I agree that a clearer user interface would be good. But as it stands, there are three methods of bringing material into Avid, all with their own Pros and Cons. I would really like to see Avid help the users understand these three options so that they make the best choices. A really large number of problems one sees on this forum comes from bad media

  • Re: Avid MC import and consolidate/transcode
The slighlty older editors lets users use the import faeture for most clips. The newer one makes then transcode. Is there any way to make them import. Personally I think they should merge the commands in the next MC version.
So, you say, "Is there any way to make them import." What do you mean by that
