You should install istat menus and see what is going on with your computer. It may be getting too hot or maybe background tasks are bogging it down. I bet it's a CPU throttling issues. What's your CPU/GPU/Hard drive doing when you have AVID open but are not playing the timeline? Let us know!

The fix ended up being to move the HD, which was at the back of a chain of TB3 devices to the front.

I'm using a kensington expert mouse and steermouse to drive it. Scrolling in AVID is locked down by it's very minimal 'mouse' setting. It only three options for horizontal scrolling, and no options at all for horizontal scrolling. The horizontal scroll is way too slow to be usable IMO, so I've been exploring ways to speed it up.

I would definitely not consider this a 'hang'. Appreciate the effort Christian!
