The attic files are just regular backups (or copies) of the bins in your project. Once you've renamed them to .avb files, you can treat them as regular bin files, so you can move them into any Avid project folder you want. Assuming you need to replace a corrupt bin in your project, you would trash this bin and replace it with the attic version.

As far as I'm aware, MDV doesn't need installing. The MDV.doc I'm reading tells you to put the the exe file into any folder and just run the program by double clicking the executable.
