• Re: can I fit exported project (33GB) onto 4.7GB DVD?
It's too bad there isn't something that pops up when you're picking your export settings, to tell you how big the resulting file will be.
Hi Malcolm I always export "native" and/or full resolution out of Media Composer and then convert to the required size using MPEG Streamclip (www.squared5

  • Re: Dongles are better than online activation!

I certainly hope that dongle support continues past v5! Considering proponents of software activation claimed during the recent forum bunfight that dongles are an embarrasingly old technology and that software activation is THE future, it was interesting to learn that Blackmagic DaVinci's new Resolve for Mac only runs with a dongle.
  • Re: Alexa-Arriraw or ProRes 444? (post moves on image)

Servus Schnitt! can't help with Alexa or ProRes question but regarding audio and AutoSync: it might sound old-fashioned but time of day timecode, clapper and Cutter-Berichte are obligatory. Then a manual sync up of sound and vision (mark in on the claps), using AutoSync then link them into one clip. It might sound like a ton of useless work, but

  • MC and Digidesign Command|8

I bought a Digidesign Command|8 for my Media Composer v4.0.5 a coupl eof weeks ago. All is working wonderfully: I can quickly ride levels and pan, using little effort and on the run. Much more tactile than mousing about on the screen's audio mixer. The machine controls give a very solid, very VTR feel to working (if you miss that sort of thing)

  • Re: MC(4 or 5) and the Internet - what is the situation?

Sef, does this mean you have to reactivate every time you start working? If so, could you work around this by connecting a cable from your computer's ethernet card to your wireless hub and then activating? This I think would mimic Mike Shaw's setup. Afterwards you could go back to wireless. I think...

  • Re: FCP or Avid or FCE

Hi FCE isn't really a scaled down version of FCP, it's more like a gutted out version. Yyou can't export EDLs or XMLs. You can open an FCE project in FCP (as long as the FCP version is newer than the FCE version) but once you've saved it in FCP you can't open it again in any FCE. FCE doesn't record timecode from HDV so you can't

  • Re: making SD Pal copies from 1080p 24fps project

The Cinema Tools route seems to be the simplest and least time-consuming. Took about 10 seconds to "re-rate" a 24fps QT for import into a 25p project. Our audio expert is back on board next week so we'll work out the speed-up problems with him. It shouldn't be too difficult, 24@25 has been around in broadcast for 50 years, so there's

Hi I have a similar task. We'll be receiving 24p and 24psF Quicktimes for BluRay Discs. No problem there, but we'll also need to produce PAL SD DVDs. The DVD authoring programme requires 50i or 25p Quicktime files for import. We've tried exporting a Quicktime movie at 25fps. That doubles the 24th frame every second, keeping the duration

  • Re: XDCam import tab missing???

Problem seems to be solved. I installed the wrong PDW-U1 driver. Now with PDW-U1_v2_21 it's importing. Job saved!!! Driver downloaded from http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcam/resource.downloads.bbsccms-assets-micro-xdcam-downloads-XDCAMSoftwareDownload.shtml

I believe you need to turn off ama volume access in settings to allow xdcam import dialogue
That is correct. Disable AMA in your user settings, and the XDCAM import tab will re-appear in the Import options window. You will need to close and re-launch the application for it to
