Hello
Whilst there seems to be a lot of interest in the new release of Final Cut (in which I have zero interest) the release of Boris Red 5 seems to have passed us by. (Or did I miss the discussions?)
Anyway does anyone know if Avid FX is going to have an upgrade to a new version and if so how, when and in what form this will be?
Cheers
Neil

Neil -
While that is a great question, Avid will never announce their future plans on the forum, for a variety of reasons. If you need the features of Red 5, you should purchase it. We will not know about any upgrade to Avid FX until it actually happens, and anyone who does know is under a non-disclosure agreement and cannot reveal.

I understand the issue of speculation, however given that Red 5 has been announced and is therefore not specualtion - Avid should be in a position to answer questions around this issue.
With the release of Boris Red 5 it would be naive of Avid to think that these questions will not be asked.
By the way Boris has offered a $295 upgrade from Avid FX to Boris Red 5 -
Is this going to be the recommended upgrade route for Avid FX or would they advise us to wait this out?

Are you sure of that Neil ( link ?? )
All I see is am upgrade offer from old versions of stand alone Red to the new Red 5 , nothing about an Avid FX upgrade offer.
Tomas
There is no link, I mailed Boris FX support asking them the same question that I originally posted in this thread.
I got a response stating that they are not sure how Avid FX will be updated but offering me the upgrade from my current versoin of AFX to Red 5 for $295.00.

Not released yet!
It has been shown at NAB.It will soon be released.
But usually the first versions are either the stand-alone version or the versions designed to work alongside Premiere, FCP etc. The Avid version is usually a little later than the rest.
Some of the main new additions are the same as those already seen in BCC 7.
It is just a matter of time and patience . . . . .

Douglas, is this speculation ??
You might be wrong, time will tell

More speculations, it might be newly developed versions of those filters, just to wait and see

Thanks a lot for asking them this Neil, hopefully this will be an offer for all Avid editors, very nice indeed

No, it is history

No, I have heard them say it themselves in one of the new tutorials on Boris Red 5
drbgaijin: No! I heard them say it in one of their Tutorials on it.

To be exact it was one of their webinars last month, I think.
Now they may have it posted on their site.I would have to go there and search.....I attended the webinar, so I have already watched.
Try searching for "Boris red 5 webinar" on Google.
Good luck,
Douglas
Ok, seems like the current status for that site is that the last webinar is from march 22 and is for FCP, wil do a new search later, thanks for pointing me to it

How about this page
http://www.borisfx.com/red/Upgrade-Reasons.php
I do have that link, what I wanted to hear was Boris saying that there was no further developed filters inside of Red except for the ones already existing in BCC 7

Now I understand where you have misunderstood my reference to " . . . new in BCC 7"
I was not referring to BCC filters as such, I was referring to the new "tools" like the Control Widgets.
Otherwise it does say on the Boris pages:
"Boris RED is an integrated 3D compositing, titling, and effects application designed for Adobe, Apple, Avid, Grass Valley, Media 100, and Sony video editing software. Boris RED 5 introduces support for 64-bit applications such as Adobe CS5 and Sony Vegas 9, adds 30+ new filters, and provides a score of new user interface and workflow enhancements including ergonomic panels, a curve editor, and a spreadsheet-style keyframe editor window."
Remember that what is listed for inclusion in the Adobe and Vegas versions is not necessarily included in the Avid version.
BCC is a plug-in application. It must have a host to work with, whether that host is AE, Boris Red, MC or what.
I am busy enough learning more about using BCC 7 as well as trying to get deeper into AvidFX 5.8 to worry about what is or is not in the next version.
