MC 4.0.5 Nitris DX + Transitions, Alpha or Head/Tail Fades Timeout (updated)

Hey Folks, just a bit of a boggle here.  I am using a new MC 4.0.5 Nitris DX, and when importing a QT+Alpha into an HDV project, I get an SFPlayConsumer::Execute TIMEOUT error, and it won't playback.  I tried importing a separate alpha channel as a workaround, and the same thing happens when I try to apply a matte effect.

I also cannot use any transitions or fades on the video tracks, as the same thing happens.  I cannot render the effects or mixdown the video track, as it stalls from a lack of progress.

I've tried importing at HDV and DNX resolutions, to the same result, and have tried the video on both the internal striped and external striped disc array, no difference.    Works fine in SD.

    Systems specs are

    Nitris DX

Any help would be appreciated.  I disconnected the Nitris and restarted MC, and it works fine.  Is my Nitris box possibly messed up?

Re: MC 4.0.5 + HD Alpha Channel or Matte = Problems

Hmm upgraded to the latest revision + Nitris driver update seems to have not solved this issue. I thought it had but I was working in SD.

Re: MC 4.0.5 Nitris DX + Transitions, Alpha or Head/Tail Fades Timeout (updated)

We will need a bit more information in order to help. Can you tell us the epxort settings you used to create the QT with Alpha? What is the framze size of the file? Into what project type/resolution are you importing?

When you updated to v4.x of the software, did you also update the drivers on your ATTO card?

Re: MC 4.0.5 Nitris DX + Transitions, Alpha or Head/Tail Fades Timeout (updated)

Sure, 1440x1080 raster QT+Alpha from After Effects into my 1080i 59.94 1440x1080 raster HDV project, at HDV bitrate.  First problem was that MC wouldn't play back the file without the timeout error.  I've been making these QT+Alpha files for years so this was an eyebrow raiser.

I tried again with some re-imported test footage at 1440x1080 145 DNx, and and 1920x1080 rasters, same result.  Then I saw I couldn't even do a head or tail fade, or quick transition on the HDV footage itself in any HD bitrate iteration without the SFConsumer timeout notification.  As a workaround test I tried to mixdown a segment of video with one blend transition, and the mixdown stalls on the transition with a Pipe Stall error, likely resulting from the lack of progress.

I disconnected the Nitris, restarted, and did a test, and that HD footage seems to work fine.

I have checked the ATTO card and it is running the recommended driver and version, as far as I can tell from the MC 4.0.5 knowledgebase. 3.13

Re: MC 4.0.5 Nitris DX + Transitions, Alpha or Head/Tail Fades Timeout (updated)

Well, after being at my wits end with trying workarounds, disconnecting components, reseating cards, triple checking settings, nothing was working.  I couldn't do anything to HD video (any iteration) other than straight cuts.

Then I updated the Graphics driver for the Quadro 4800 from the recommended 190.38 to the latest driver, 197.90.  Suddenly things are working.  Now with HD video, I can playback head and tail fades, use transitions and effects, render them, and mix down video tracks that had said effects applied.  I could do none of that before.

I don't know what is going on under the hood, but for now I am productive again.  Perhaps there are some Video-to-Workstation (z800)  fixes in the driver that have smoothed things out.

    Hello,

Sorry for re-open the case but I have the same problem with media composer 6.0.3.4 nitris DX.

    Any suggestion?

    Thanks a lot!
