I have just got a new system with windows 7 and media composer 4. I hooked in the tape deck and tried all the steps that worked to get the deck to work on xp media composer 3.9. Is there something i'm missing. I have tried to do the deck config in media composer and that doesn't work. Restarted windows and MC. Still nothing works.

First Avid hasnt approved Windows 7 and Media Composer yet.  While some have gotten it to work, we dont have configuration, setup etc. requirements and advice here for you yet.

I can try and assist - what deck are you tryign to connect and how are you connecting it?

Have you got access to another brand of deck to try?  Historically it has often been difficult to make JVC "decks" play nicely with anything other than other JVC devices.

This model is known to have unreliable FireWire device control and the JVC deck template specifically for this deck was actuakly removed in 4.0.4.

This is the same thing that your "peeps" told us last time we had an error and then they put out a fix in media composer 3.5.1 So is there any planned updates to MC 4.0 to fix this problem? Also please keep trying to contact your "deck peeps" for me
