Hi all,
I just upgraded to MC 4.0.2, all's running fine except Avid DVD. When I launches I get the message "The free avtivation period for this product has expired. You will need to purchase an activation key online to view a DVD or MPEG movie files. To purchase an activation key now, please ensure that you have an active internet connection, and click the Next button".
My dongle has been updated and is working with MC 4.0.2.
This machine is in a studio with no internet connection whatsoever, and the only option I have is "cancel" which exits the application. Is this an error, and if not, how can I activate the software manually?
thanks!
Pretty sure that Avid DVD 6.1 requires an internet connection to activate. It no longer uses the Dongle for activation.

The internet activation thing is becoming universal. Pegasus software ie TmpGe even pings its server monthly to renew the licence.
Using MC 23.12. Win 22H2 Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 20/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D
You do have the option of registering over the web from a different PC. However, I've been experiencing the same problem and Roxio/Sonic support is absolutely no help at all.

the problem is that there's no option to register from another pc...it either tries to contact a server or I can cancel and it quits...
From what I recall you still need the doingle for Avid DVD.
This is one reason that I don't see the online activation good for me still.

Not for Avid Dvd 6,1 , Steve is very correct, 6,1 is only software licensing based

Does 6.1 actually bring new functionality? It looks like the only solution available is to revert to 5.7....

AvidDVD 6.0 and AvidDVD 6.1 are exactly the same, except for the Dongle compatability issue.AvidDVD 6.1 was released to allow it to run without the Dongle in version 3.5 and upwards. If you have 6.0 that would be better than 5.7 . 6.0 allows for Double Layer Blu-Ray burning, I don't think that was available in 5.7

There is another thread with this same/similar problem

Ok, is there a way to get 6.0? and why don't they acknowledge some people want to keep their dongles?
Is there no way for you to setup a temporary internet connection for the sake of activting Avid DVD?
You can keep your dongle if you are upgrading from an earlier version. If you purchase MC4.02 as new, then you are stuck with software activation.
Read in a forum post some time ago: plug in the deadtivated dongle and You get AvidDVD back; if You run other software dongle protected that will do the trick as well, as long as that dongle is the same brand as the Avid dongle. Did not test it myself but hth.
edited: I just noticed You're already running off the dongle, I shoukldn't post too early in the morning!

It's a workstation with no network card, and all networking services are either removed or disabled on the station; furthermore, the location where the machine is doesn't have any internet connectivity, so I'd have to install all this stuff, and take the station by car to another location to plug it on the web... and since this workstation has been working flawlessly, to be on the safe side I don't think it's a good idea to start messing with it like that... it would be a lot easier to just install 6.0, if only I could download it from Avid.....
