Avid NEXIS Data Migration Utility - Failed Log In

    Hello,

I am looking to use this utility to move data from NEXIS to NEXIS but keep getting a "user authentication failed for user 'administrator' "I have tried different version of the tool and matched the tool to the highest version nexis but still no luck.  I feel it must be something wrong as I am finding nothing on the internet of people having similar issues.  The plan is to move from a NEXIS Pro 19.4 to an E4 21.8.  Any advice is appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Rory

    Hi Rory,

Which user authentication is failing? You have to enter credentials for both the source and destination.  Are you following the documentation?

    https://resources.avid.com/SupportFiles/attach/AvidNEXIS/AvidNEXIS_AdminGuide_v2023.12.0.pdf

    From page 132:

    Do the following:

    a. In the Source field, select the appropriate source system and type the administrator password.

    b. Click Connect or press Enter.

    c. In the Destination field, select the appropriate destination system and type the Administrator password.

    d. Click Connect or press Enter.

Are you on a system that can access both NEXIS PRO and the E4?

    Thanks,

Re: Avid NEXIS Data Migration Utility - Failed Log In

Than k you for the treply.

"To use the Data Migration Utility, you must connect to the source and destination shared-storage systems as Administrator in the Client Manager to allow DMU to detect both systems."

We have six NEXIS'.  I cannot connect to any of them via Data Migration.  I can connect to all of them via Client Manager but I cannot connect as Administrator in client manager.  Does that make sense

Re: Avid NEXIS Data Migration Utility - Failed Log In

I just tested in my lab with multiple engines and I do not see your problem.  I am using the 2024.2 version of DMU and the engines are ranging from 23.12 to 24.2.

I can connect to each as either source or destination.  Do you perhaps have a special character in your password for "Administrator" that is perhaps not working here? Can you try to connect the E4 or PRO to another NEXIS SG since you said you have six systems?

Re: Avid NEXIS Data Migration Utility - Failed Log In

I've just tried on the same ip address range without having to navigate VLANs in case it was an odd networking issue but it is the same outcome.  The password is a standard one and it will not connect to any of the six nexis.

Can you log into either source or destination in any order?

Well, that is strange! Is something locally on the computer blocking a particular network port? Windows Defender? some EDR?

re: Can you log into either source or destination in any order?

Yes, I have 4x engines in my lab and I can login to them in any order.  We are also in the same VLAN and I had zero issues.

What version of migration utility are you on? I hope it is 21.8 since that is your target destination?

Do you have an active support contract?

You are probably using the Agent password for your Administrator login.

That password will not work for the MU. Add or change the password in the Management page. Try leaving the "current" password as blank/empty.

Avid helped me out.  The passwords to the DB had to be reset via ssh.  New one on on me but looks good now.  Thank you for the responses

    Rory
