Hi!
We do have Nexis Client Version 23.3.0.020 and round about 20 Avid Media Composer 2021.2 (Windows) connected to the Nexis via 10GBit network.
Sometimes the Nexis looses the connection for no reason. Seperately for only some Media Composers (never all at the same time).
In Nexis Client the system and the Workspaces are still advisible, but under "Modus" the status is "not available". And of course Media Composer can not see any workspaces anymore.
And sometimes, there is nothing shown in the Nexis client: no system we can connect to. We have to restart the PC. But when it's done, our system is shown in Nexis Client and we can connect to it.
We are also checking the length of the network cables, but obvious that is not the problem.
Does anyone had the same problems? Thank you!
Hi, what's your NEXIS server software version?
It is the same like the Client: 23.3.0.202

Yes. I see the same issue at several customers. It doesn't happen very frequently but there is definitely a pattern that the frequency increased since version 2021.3.1 but I can't say in which version because of skipping Nexis versions both client and core.

We see the same thing. Sometimes reinstalling the nexis client helps. I am weary of going up to the 2023.8.1 client because 2023.7 and 2023.8 were plagued with this error “VideoEffectConsumer::ChangePixelFormat()” when using effects. 2023.8.1 documentation does say that is fixed but I am waiting a while.
kkordisch:2023.8.1 documentation does say that is fixed but I am waiting a while.
Are you listening Avid? The customer base is loosing trust in your abilties to maintain your product development, in this case Nexis! I don't think it needs a lot of thinking what might happen if you continue on this path.
That is how it always is and has been. During 8.0 through 8.7, we didn't put anybody on those versions because of the removal of script sync. Now unless my hands are tied, I won't put out any new versions of MC or nexis out. I also will not put out any apple silicon macs out on avid at this point because of the constant IO issues, hanging issues, crashing when they close. The hard truth is at this point, anybody wanting to not hate their life while editing, should avoid apple silicon like the plague. The only MC and IO version that works with apple silicon that works without constant crashing or hanging issues is 2021.12.8 and AJa 16.2.2. The best thing anybody can do to figure out what versions to use is to sit and read the forums for a few months before jumping the gun on anything. I could not care at all about ANY new AI features or new functionality at this point. I just want it stable. That is it.
Avid has to realize, that for apple silcon, the only version that DID NOT kernel panic when you did a simple copy was nexis client 2023.3. Then they release a client to optimize nexis edge (that not a lot of people use) which causes errors when you add effects on apple silicon and intel. I hope they can understand why people are upset, pissed, and extremly gun shy to try anything new from them.
Yes, this was fixed in 23.8.1. Did you upgrade both client and server? Both sides need to be on 23.8.1 for the fix to work.
.....ah, you mean the Video Effect consumer Problem mentioned by kkordisch was fixed. I found that in the documentation now
