Loudness Monitoring - Audio plugin needed for MC

Izotope's plugins used to work with Media Composer but their new versions no longer support MC.   Can something be done or any suggestions for this area?  Would make life a bit easier for checking simple jobs for broadcast without having to go to another program.

How does Avid discuss this with its 3rd party providers - if at all?

Will crosspost this in the other forum if that's ok?

VisLM still works. At least on 2018.12.15. I have the latest version of that plugin working.

And LM-Correct also works ok (bit buggy), if you just want to mush things to whatever your loudness spec is.

Avid's own Pro Limiter has a LUfs meter.

Can that be installed on Media Composer Job? Tried downloading it but it would only let me use it with an iLok account on Protools?

You'll probably need an iLok but it most certainly works in MC. PT and MC share their plugin architecture. While there are some limitations and not all vendors test their plugins for MC, they tend to work. The Avid Dynamics ones (Pro Compressor, Pro Limiter etc) work very well for me. They also sound great, much nicer than the old Dynamics III that MC ships with (although the newer Channel Strip plugin is great, as it is an emulation of a well-known high-end Euphonix film mixing console's channel strip).

Re: Loudness Monitoring - Audio plugin needed for MC

Like many things, loudness plugins are well integrated with MC.

Yes you can use third party plugins on the master fader but their windows can't be pinned anywhere. Audio plugins can't be integrated into a workspace and keep floating so you're constantly moving them around.

Also, the current accumulated loudness doesn't store anywhere so if you switch to a new sequence, the loudness resets.

I tried using VSLM as it had the option to recalculate the loudness as you repeatedly played over sections of the timeline. Exactly what I wanted as I mixed my programme. Unfortunately, as I found to my cost, switching sequences resulted in the accumulated loudness being lost.

I've reverted back to an external loudness monitor (rtw TM9) with timecode fed from the output device. A much better solution.

This has been requested for years. Just look to Premiere for its built in oudness radar. Not the best in the world as it only works realtime. But it does at least have it. I teach up and coming students to the UKL broadcast media world and have to point them to premiere to deal with loudness.

It should just be in MC and should have been for years.
