2018.12.9 on OSX 10.14.1
I just started a project and the thumbnails I see in either Frame View Tab or Script View Tab keep changing. And when the change they are Thumbnails from other clips!!!
Any ideas?
Jef
EDIT: I THINK I MIGHT HAVE FOUND IT. I noticed that Faster Thumbnails was on. Turned it off and they seem to have gone back to what they should be. Will keep an eye on it.
Ok that was definitely the issue. BUT .... This feature seems to be turned on in ALL my bins. I can not figure out how to disable it globally HELP!!!

This feature should REALLY not be on by default as I believe it is.
Ok, this is really messy.
I now think that something is wrong beyond the Faster Thumbnails feature. My project is just randomly changing thumbnails to one of two thumbnails from other clips. Toggling Faster Thumbnails can sometimes cause them to change as I watch. I tried flushing the memory cache to no avail. I have tried new user. Nope.
Stumped.
I have just located and trashed all thumbnail files. I set up a new location on a SSD drive for thumbnails going forward. As I open bins in the offending project I see the thumbnails being built. They seem correct. Now I wait and watch .....
I'm seeing the same in 2018.12.11.
I think there is a problem with the thumbnail cache somehow.

Seing the same issue in 2018.12.12.
Jef - how did the changes you made work out longer term?

So far, so good. I have not had the problem occur since writing. I should check and see how big the cache has grown. That is at work. I wll look next time I am there ....Jef
Thanks. Is this an external SSD you have set the cache to?
We've resorted to disabling the frame cache on the disk by opening the Media Cache settings, flushing the Thumbnails cache and then changing the 'Disk Cache Size to 0 and saving the setting. This seems to stop MC from creating any thumbnails on disk at all.
However if you do open the Media cache setting again it does default back to 120, so have to ensure always set to 0. So far this seems to have stopped the issue, but probably need to run it a while longer to be sure.
**Update**
The above has not helped after all. Same issue today with it off on all systems. Have now tried trashing the search database and rebuilding, also made no difference. Tried with Fast Thumbanails on and off and get inconsistent results and bad frames displayed no matter what way this is set. This is really anoying.
There is a console command in the terminal called "ToggleOptimizedBinFrameView". Have tried disabling this too. Nothing helps so far.
Jeff could you explain exactly what you did and what kind of project you're working in. We are in a shared Nexis project setup. Thanks.
From the 2018.12.9 release notes:
"Bug Number: MCCET-3201. When in Frame View, if you enlarged the thumbnails, they displayed the original small thumbnail when you dragged the clips."
Seeing as this started with the release of 2018.12.9, could be that the above 'bug fix' has caused these unitended side affects. We're going to roll a system back to 2018.12.8 and check.
Hi Jef,
Can you report what version of Media Composer your Avid media was created in? I assume it was pre 2018.12.9?
ThanksMark
Media Composer 2018.12.13 is out and fixes this thumbnail issue! Thank you Avid.
Awesome! Just fighting that over the weekend.
