Clean (re-)install MC 8.X - keep projects and media

I failed to find an explicit answer to this in the KB or forums (sorry if I didn't search carefully enough).

Due to chronic problems with background rendering (most likely background queue / jobs database is now corrupt), and since I want to give 8.5 a try (a couple of new features are appealing to me, just afraid of the extra load on my system), I feel I'm ready to clean re-install MC (but want to avoid OS reinstall level - even if I have some partition image around).

    1) backup all current MC data & folders

    2) deactivate licenses (MC & third-party sw)

    3) uninstall MC & third-party sw

    4) delete all MC data folders (and registry settings) EXCEPT media folder(s) AND project folder (Documents\Avid Projects)

    5) install 8.5 etc.

Question: if I keep JUST media folders and project folders, will I be able to keep my existing projects (OK to loose renders etc.) AND start with a clean empty background jobs queue ? Should I clean up any MXF\_bg.x folder on the media drives in order to be 200% sure to get rid of any background job corruption ? If so, how ?

    no problem whatsoever.

no need to backup projects or mediafiles because of a re-install. just dont delete them manually ;)

your projecs should't be on the sytem drive anyway imho.

there shouldn't be any corruption on the MediaFiles .mxf level.

you can take all the mxf files from the _bg.x folders and drop them into any numbered folder like regular imports have. avid will re-scan and quarantine anything that has true data corruption.

Or just rename the -bg.x folder to any number not already in your Avid MediaFiles\MXF\ folder. The existing database files in the renamed folder will be current.

OK & tx for the tips (in line with my bullet #4)

Now I'm struggling with an unexpected problem: MC hangs at the "autoconfiguring transport machines" line in the splash screen, despite careful uninstall & cleanup procedure (incl. nVidia driver + Quicktime version upgrade per 8.5 readme) and flawless 8.5.2 installation+reactivation [:'(]  just submitted a support case....now waiting & crossing fingers
