Any Way To Fix A Camera Pan With An Uneven Speed In Avid?

    Hi,

I'm wondering if there's a relatively painless way to do this in Avid (or even After Effects or Nuke)...  I'm working on footage with a long pan, about 10 seconds.  The camera operator sort of stop/started in a few parts.  The speed varies and it is very hard to fix by hand, by removing frames and speeding up and slowing down parts.  This seems to me like it would be a very common problem and I'm wondering if anyone's aware of any tools (directly in Avid or plugins or separate programs) to make the fix as painless as possible.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try the stabilize effect in steady-glide mode.

Figured it out.  I used the warp stabilizer in After Effects.  I didn't think it would smooth the timing, but it did!  Amazing!  I'm just curious now if there are any "in Avid" solutions for this, as it seems like it'd be such a common issue.

Awesome!  Thanks, smrpix!  I posted my response to my own question before seeing your response.  I'll give it a whirl.

Yep, same idea, different algorithms.  Glad it worked out for you.

Also, the tracker of Baselight can do wonders as well. Actually, baselight is so good it should be included as standard in MC. It's fast, responsive and far better than a lot in house plugins of MC. And it's cheap for what it is for a 1000 bucks.

Hey, Eduardo (from the NFTS, right?:-))

Thanks for the suggestion!  I haven't tried the baselight plugin.  Of course I used the actual baselight at school though.  Hope all is well.

Wow! I never bumped to someone that I actually know in real life around here. Really interesting.

Nice to hear that you are back to editing! But I can tell you that having a BG in compositing really helps, even if it is to tell the director what can and cannot be done. Are you still on UK?

Yeah, try the baselight plugin. It's actually the best thing that came to Avid in a while. It's far superior to a Symphony (in the CC dept), funny enough.

Hope all is well for you. Greetings from the warm vibes of south!
