    Upgrade Avid MC to 6.5

I'm running Avid MC 5.5.2 on a MAC Pro OS 10.6.6 (Snow Leopard).
I'm about to upgrade the OS to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Avid to MC 6.5.
What is the ideal workflow to perform such upgrade?

This is what I'm planning to do:

    1) backup the system hard disk from Time Machine
    2) uninstall avid MC usind the uninstaller
    3) upgrade the OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 via the online software update
    4) install Mountain Lion
    5) install avid MC 6.5

I'm not planning to do a clean install. I'll do it only if some problem happens.

    Any thought or advice?

First, be advised that 10.8.2 is not yet qualified. 10.8.1 is, along with 10.7.1, 10.7.2, 10.7.3, 10.7.4 and 10.8.0. See this version matrix.

I recommend you rethink that. To avoid problems before they happen, go with the clean install, regardless of which OS you finally decide to use.

Save yourself the time and headache.  Do the clean install.  In fact, I believe Apple even recommends it.

Do you mean perform a clean install and than recover all my data from time machine,

or you mean do a clean install and than reainstall everything windows style?

Another clean install fan here. (has worked well with a relatively new laptop and 2008 Mac Pro here)

In my opinion, any time you're upgrading the OS from one "cat" to another you should always do the clean install.  Time Machine is a good back up system that can save your bacon if you upgraded say from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8, but if moving from 10.6.x to 10.8.x, I'd do a clean install.

If you just do a Time Machine backup then you're basically not doing a clean install.

Of course a clean install works well.
My question is: does the simple upgrade works like apple suggest?

    Thanks Kenton,
Apple support and the Apple store people suggest that a clean install is not needed.

Did you experience any problems upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or is just something you do

    to be safe?

Initially I had problems with MC6.0.3 on the laptop after upgrading  Snow Leopard to ML.  A subsequent clean install solved it for me.
