Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

Another voice for the chorus. Having to adjust these keyframe levels individually is a nightmare. Here`s hoping something comes of this thread.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

I agree with all of the above. I have always used audio keyframes or rubber banding to mix audio and have called for the ability to slide groups of keyframes for many years (it was always top of my feature request wish list) and was really pleased to see it finally implemented. However, Doug giveth and Doug taketh away!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrkr6kL20PE

I understand that implementing this change involved a complete code rewrite and new features were unlocked in doing so, but please please stick to the old Avid paradigm of many ways to achieve the same result: lassoing and marking a region should both work. The lack of track ganging for audio keyframes is surely an oversight. Nobody could have thought that this was a better way of working.

I applaud the new functionality including deleting hidden keyframes and copying and pasteing keyframe sections, it is what I have wanted for a very long time - but it can be better.

In the past couple of years Avid has listened and has changed or tweaked new things based on user feedback including the Smart Tool the design of IN OUT Markers and many more. Lets hope this latest development will be improved soon.

and thanks to Larry for pushing it so hard.

    Dear Avid,

After watching Doug's video, I've changed what I had written. The new keyframe features and ability to move discontiguous segements are very impressive. There is no doubt that a lot of thoughtful work has gone into bringing these features to us. So thank you very much.

I do hope that you will take to heart the requests made in this thread. They come from our particular needs for using MC, which may not have been anticpated, but are nonetheless very important to us. Thank you.

MC 6.5.2 was released on Dec 18 2012. Nothing about the audio keyframes... Do you know if they are working on the issue ?

While there is nothing in the readme about it, I can tell you that marking in and out to define a region of audio keyframes has been restored in 6.5.2. However, adjusting multiple keyframes at the same position across multiple audio tracks by dragging a single one has not been restored. It is still necessary to lasso them. I sincerely hope the design team will restore that function as well.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

Nothing I can see on audio (unless it is down as a bug fix - which I doubt) but this is a nice one that I was asking for:

Holding the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Macintosh) while selecting the Select Left, Select

Right, or Select In/Out button will exclude filler from the selection.

Thanks Avid Bods! This will save a lot of time clicking and unclicking.

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

Wow! Believe it or not this does now work properly. If you set an IN and Out point and select a keyframe then all the keyframes between the In and Out on the selected tracks are selected. this is new and undocumented as far as I can see in 6.5.2

    Thanks again Avid bods

Next will be to fix it so that clicking on a keyframe selects the parallel keyframe in a Mono pair in the way that it used to work. E.g. if you have some music as a Mono pair of tracks rather than a stereo track (it does happen) and you add a keyframe to both tracks at the same point then if you want to adjust them both you have to click on them individually or lassoo rather than the default being that clicking on either selects both.

Another voice for it right here. I just don't even understand why the feature was taken out to begin with, highly inconvenient. The removal of superbin with Avid 6 was annoying as well.

It got broken I suspect (rather than deliberately removed) because of the major rewrite to the way audio keyframes work which was generally a very good thing and apperently unlocked a few other useful features such as being able to select and move non sequential clips, however the Avid man giveth and he accidentally takes away. I think the way developement has been working lately, they will be listening and hopefully taking note.

As to the superbin - most editors I worked with hated it when it first appeared and avoided it like the plague - I thought it had it's uses but was limited and sometimes annoying (how many times have you accidentally closed the superbin and lost a load of bins you still wanted open and your sequence has disappeared as well.) The new tabbed bin is a much more elegant solution that overcomes all the problems of the Superbin and still has a Superbin style menu on one side - what's not to like! Big Smile

Re: Audio keyframe (changing volume of a group of keyframe)

Long time user, first time owner here.

I just installed 6.5.2 and within 2 minutes freaked out when I couldn't affect multiple track levels (whichever's active) with the same set of keyframes (ie. the issue that we're all talking about now that the I/O region has been fixed). This is a major problem for me and my workflow as I'm sure it is for many people. I'm glad I came in at 6.5.2 with at least the I/O region fixed.

Say I'm dealing with 4 dialogue tracks, one way I work is to have tracks A1-4 selected, add a keyframe and drag all of them down simultaneously. Then quickly deselect A1 and nudge the lav back up (or whatever the case may be).

Having the ability to come up with your own tried and true workflow that gets honed year after year to the point where it's in your DNA is what makes Avid so great. Please bring this function back so we can keep on keepin' on!

And thanks to Larry for spearheading this campaign to get these functions back! Let's hope it's a quick fix
