Heard that Apple is going to release yet again another new operating system called Lion (10.7) sometime this summer. Does Avid plan to release an update to MC v5.5 or are they going to release a new version of MC to make it compatable with Lion (v6)?
We have no idea. And we can't speculate.
Must think of something clever to go here...
Well, looks like Mac OS Lion is out today. Knowing Avid, we'll see in update to MC 5.5 in about 2 months? 3 Months?
Seriously though, developers have had access to the software for almost a year. Are you seriously telling me Avid waits until the operating system is released before it updates it's programs? I hate to speculate on the number of Mac users that use MC, but I'm guessing it's in the millions. It would be nice if these updates came a litter faster.
Thank you [steps down from soapbox].

And can you guarantee that the released version is "identical" to the Beta Versions that Avid was testing wth. Seriously, (to coin a phrase) only the released version counts.

You're under the mistaken impression that the production version of an OS has anything to do with the beta and developer versions. Apple regularly screws over folks by the release not matching what they've shown everyone.
So you get software that works right the first time it appears on the platform, not 3 versions later.
Your soapbox will shatter under you, and suddenly you can't meet your bills, as the software won't work, and you can't get work done.

And why do you need to update your OS the day it's released?

I don't. All I'm saying is it'd be nice if Avid gave some indication that they were working on an update. In the past these things have taken a long time, much longer than they should from such a large software company such as Avid. If I remember correctly, the update for Snow Leopard took almost 6 months.
No, I'm not a developer, and no I wasn't expecting an answer from Avid today. But there's changes they should know are forthcoming. Adobe already has an FAQ regarding issues with Lion and the CS suite -http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html.
Just a little communication. That's all I'm asking.
Avid has different expectations of its usership than most software developers. For quite some time, alot of people didn't even install anything else on their Avid machine. Often, the entire computer would be referred to as "The Avid". In Adobe's market, users expect to be able to run the software on pretty much anything, but Avid have always been very specific about making sure that everything works perfectly, because in a fast paced post-production world there is little room for error. And the idea that there are millions of people using MC on a Mac is pretty absurd. Final Cut has millions of users, Avid never has. Hence the reason why Avid costs so much more.

Slimpunk...
We dont get the "final" OS until it is actually released from Apple. While we do have access to developoer builds like veryone else, they are not ALWAYS the SAME as the final build so that is what we tets on. Case in point - we had done some preliminary tests on 10.6.8 and when it came out discovered kernal panic errors when a system with hardware - Mojo DX or Nritsi DX was attached. Many of the 3rd party partners out there are also having some issues with 10.6.8. Lion was JUST shipped the first of this month and while we want to support it, we need to et the 10.6.8 bumps sorted first and have another update on our end coming with that support.
We expect to support Lion but again not sure when yet due to what our tetsing team discovers. A lot of configs get tested too - bunch of Mac's and PC's ( laptops and desktops) along with graphics cards - Mojo, Mojo SDI, MOjo DX, Nitris, AJA io, Matrox MX 02 Mini etc.....

Marianna, would it be possible to have a rolling qualification starting with the last approved hardware generation?
