Is it possible to purchase Avid MC v4?

I left a voicemail for the Sales rep in Pasadena and sent an E-mail to the Parts Dept.  Have not heard back from either one.

As a student, I purchased Avid Media Composer v2.8.4 in early 2008.  I previously had Mac OS 10.4.11 Tiger.  Unfortunately, I had to upgrade my operating system to Mac 10.5.8 Leopard.  Is there any way I could purchase Avid Media Composer v4, since I now have Mac OS 10.5.8, even though Avid MC v5.5 is the one on sale now?

Also, my iMac, which I purchased in early 2008 has a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, but under your qualified iMacs, it says it needs a 2.66 GHz CPU.  Is it crucial that my iMac must have the 2.66 CPU to run Avid MC v4?  If so, is it possible to change processors in my iMac as simple as buying new memory?

Avid MC v2021.12, macOS Monterey 12.1 (w/out dongle), iMac 21.5-inch, late 2015 (purchased new on Jan. 2017), Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory... [view my complete system specs]

No, you cannot buy v4.0.  Do you have a dongle?  If you buy v5.5, and register your software, you'll have access to the Download Center, where you can get v4.0.  A dongle blasted for 5,x will still run v4.0.

Randy is correct.  WE no longer have stock of MC 4 so you would need to buy MC 5.5.  Since MC 5.5 comes with software licensing, your serial # would be for 5.5.  However I would be happy to provide you with a MC 4 serial # as long as you can provide me with the invoice showing you bought MC 5.5.

My other question, is it critical that I need to upgrade my Intel processor?  I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, but under qualified iMacs, it says I need a 2.66 GHz CPU.  If so, is it as simple as purchasing new memory for my iMac?

    Hi Marianna, re MC v5.5

Hi Marianna, I would have no issue purchasing MC v5.5 and then getting v4 in the process.  The only reason I am reluctant to dump a lot of money on v5.5 is that I have a big concern whether my iMac, which I purchased in early 2008, is even capable of running v4.  I already have 4MG of RAM which is required to run v4, but is it also critical that I need to upgrade my Intel processor?  I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, but under qualified iMacs, it says I need a 2.66 GHz CPU.  If so, is it as simple as purchasing new memory for my iMac?  I just don't want to be stuck with a version of MC that I can't use on my iMac that requires I buy a new computer.

Re: Hi Marianna, re MC v5.5

Andrew, you can download the latest version of Media Composer and run it in trial mode for up to 30 days to determine if it will work on your CPU.  Unofficial short answer: it will probably work.  Official longer answer: it may not preform properly under certain stressful conditions (like playing back AVC-Intra in realtime).
