MC 5.5.1 "Production Suite" software questions.

I noticed in the MC 5.5.1 Readme that the versions of some of the "Production Suite" software are newer than what is currently listed on the Avid site.  AvidFX, for example, is listed as 5.8.3 in the Readme, but only 5.8.2 is available via the download section.  Will we still be able to download the newer version of Avid FX if we don't get the "new" production bundle?

I'm also wondering if the previous "Production Suite" software still works with the avid 5.5.1.  For example, the version of Boris CC that comes with MC 5 is 4.2.2, but the version that apparently comes with MC 5.5.1 is BCC 7.  Does BCC 4.2.2 still work with MC 5.5.1?

Thanks for any info on this,

    Larry

Very good point, to add one more question to the above, for those who skip the version 5.51, is there going to be price differences between 5.0 owners and 5.51 when version 6 becomes available?

In reality, this version more like a bug fixes, because, a true upgrade normally cost, not sure $395 to 495 for download.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    lalittle:

The short answer is yes, BCC4 works with MC5.x.  There's a longer answer that involves AVX versions that would tell you how far back you can go with BCC plugins before they won't work with MC5.x (or how far back you could go with MC and still use BCC7), but BCC4 is fine.

    fdooman:
is there going to be price differences between 5.0 owners and 5.51 when version 6 becomes available?

MC 5.5 has been out for less than a week, so I wouldn't expect to see any pricing or upgrade information about MC6 for some time.  At least until the end of the month, for certain.

    Thanks Carl,

The reason I asked, if there was going to be a price differences, then, I could jump the wagon and pay the $150 upgrade price.

Carl, are you able to shed any light on this aspect - particularly if it is only a small patch, will it appear in the download section for us all to access without upgrading the whole production suite?  No readme on the Boris website or here (that I can find) to indicate what is fixed/improved in this version?  It would appear from the numbering that it is more of a patch than a significant upgrade.  Also, I assume that our current FX5.8.2 version will play nicely with MC5.5.1?

Many thanks for any info you can find.

Re: MC 5.5.1 "Production Suite" software questions.

This is the question I asked myself, as mc5.5 didn't have anything of major interest to me.

I then compared going from mc4.x to mc5.5 with going from mc5 to mc5.5 and decided it was cheaper for me (on mc5) to upgrade now.

I've asked, and I'll let you know when I get an answer.

That's the thing; everyone has to make this determination individually with the information available to them at the time.  It's not as though Avid is going to say "We're only charging $150 for this upgrade, but the next one will be $495, and the one after that will be $1000, so plan accordingly."

I'm not saying I think they're trying to hide information.  My guess is as MC6 is being developed there will be features that are planned for release that don't make it into the final product, and features that weren't expected to be ready that do make it into the final product, all of which means Avid isn't yet at the point where they can determine what the price should be.  So instead of taking a guess and running the risk of making all of us angry if they guess wrong, they just wait until they know for certain, and then release pricing information.

Again, that's a guess; I have no actual information regarding development or pricing or how any of that works.

    Carl et al....

Avid FX 5.8.3 is being uploaded today/tomorrow to the Downlaod center.  Apologies on this but we received it a tad late and with the weekend and the Download Center tweaks we have had to improve we didnt upload it yet.   Greg is doing that today/tomorrow so 5.8.3 will be accessible on the Down Center.

The only differences between the 2 are a few bug fixes in the 5.8.3 version.

    Hi all,

Avid FX 5.8.3 is now available from the Download Center.  It's a free upgrade if you're running 5.8 or higher.  I couldn't find a link to the ReadMe, but according to Marianna, this is the change:

UDevC00149079 – “Procedure Entry Point….could not be located in the dynamic link library ditalio.dll” when launching Avid FX Standalone.  This has been fixed.

Any questions, let me know, and thanks to Larry for pointing out the discrepancy.
