Just started using this version of the software and I find that after I lift or extract something from the timeline I have to wait about 5 seconds for the spinning ball. Trimming and other functions, including effects and titles, seem fine. I've tried with different media, different drives, etc. - same problem. I do not have a memory leak.
Things I've tried without success: clean uninstall (including trashing receipt files and a few others that don't get removed) and reinstall; repairing permissions; changing drives and media; new user and new project; different project types; and unplugging other hardware. The problem persists no matter what I try. Waiting 5 to 8 seconds for each change on the timeline is maddening.
Another small problem is I'm getting an error (DAE -9169) when I try to use the audiosuite tool. (I've repaired permissions on the Digidesign folder.) The RTAS tool seems to be working correctly. I can work around this problem for the moment.
Anyone else having these kinds of problems and found a work around or solution?
I know this issue (lag on lift and extract) has been reported before and Avid is aware of it, and has logged it as a bug. I can find nothing in the patch file readme's that indicates that it has been fixed at this time.

Hmm, I didn't see that. Are you having the same problem with 5.03.5? If not, how would I get the older patch so that I can use that version.
No I am not, but if I remember correctly this problem is a Mac specific issue, and I'm running MC 5 on PC. You can get any patch version you want at the patch center.
I get this issuse when using AMA especially with canon xf footage. It makes it impossible to edit AMA from this camera and I have to transcode everything first. I have mentioned this before but there has been no fix yet.
I'm getting this even if I transcode my AMA material.
Thought I would pass this on: If I hold the option key while making a lift or an extract edit - I cut the delay to almost nothing. This kind of edit is something I do when I want to load the extracted piece into the source monitor. It has the added benefit of alleviating this bug. Not sure if it will always work, but so far, so good.
DAE error with AudioSuite: I also get this with a fresh install of 5.0.3.7r (on 2 systems). The only workaround was to copy a Digidesign Folder from a working system. (Library>Application Support>Digidesign).

I don't have access to another copy of the Digidesign Folder. Any chance someone at Avid would be able to post a working folder that I could download?
I'm on PC at home with MC 5, but if you want, PM me with your email and I'll send it to you via yousendit.
Uh, Larry he's on a Mac.
Must think of something clever to go here...
Yes I know. Just making the offer anyway.
Thanks Larry. I think I should get Mac files. I don't have a PC version here. I'll call customer support tomorrow and see if they can send me a working folder.
PM if Avid will not provide the zip..
It is better to contact Avid the to let them know about that issue
I just did a fresh install of 5.0.3.7r on a new machine and got the DAE -9169 error. Uninstalled / reinstalled and couldn't get rid of it. I uninstalled again and then ran the older type installer for a copy of 5.0.2 I had lying around. Only ran the main Media Composer install. That started with no error, even on OS X 10.6.5. I noticed that it had added the two Mbox pref panes to system preferences. I uninstalled and then ran the 5.0.3.7r installer. Got a dialogue box requesting an administrator password, DAE then launched. Everything working, Mbox panes still in the system prefs. Makes me wonder if 5.0.3.7r on a mac is a full installer, or only actually able to upgrade a previous installation.
