    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

I went back to MC4. Maybe I will give MC5 an other chance with this fix and MC 5.01.

Can you send it to me?

Is it better to update to OSX 10.6.4? And if I have to do the update can I go back to MC4 then, if MC5 it's still not working ok for me? Because I didn't find any new update on MC4.

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

Please send me this fix as well. I'm getting the same error, bus errors, "DISK_TOO_MANY_OPEN" errors, occasional blue lines in my video-same video that plays fine earlier in the day (tried the same media on a different set of drives and still would get blue lines). After a week of headaches and rebuilding media databases today I start getting the quarantine message on rebuild. And just to make me want to jump off the roof, client walks in with an old FW800 drive that plays their project perfect, no hiccups! So I'll try anything at this point.

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

We are suffering with this error on 2 freshly installed systems.

We get the editing version of the error (not the start up)

I was wondering if 5.01 (just released) includes this new fix.

If not, I would love to download a build (Mac) that will solve this problem.

    Cheers

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

    Guys,

We do not send fixes out individually to users. Ted can send a patch out for Beta testing but that list is finite and not one that we usually expand readily.

The fix that Ted mentions, if proven to resolve the issue, will be rolled out in a general patch that we will release as we always do for free download.

Please be patient as we go through the normal develpment and release cycle. As many of you know, Avid releases these fixes often between major upgrades so it shouldn't be too long before this is patched.

    Thanks,

    Hi

Is there an estimated time.  This is absolutely killer our editors. We are now seriously behind schedule based on multiple Avids crashing with this error minute by minute.

    Thanks

Agreed. This is a more debilitating bug than normal, and thus much more frustrating.

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

The fix is in code approval now so I would expect to roll this out, not in 5.0.2 due out today or tomorrow, but in 5.0.3 which is hot on its heels for a little over a week after.

We've put this into the "this goes to 11" bucket so it's on the fast track. you should see it before we leave July. Hopefully that's worst case and you will see it before.

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

Thanks Dog.  I can commiserate with Jeff and others, in that at first my situation was catastrophic, crashing every couple minutes.  Just as an FYI, my system has been behaving for the past 5-6 days with very few or no crashes and I'm really not sure why... didn't do much after the initial couple of salvos as noted in this thread.

Anyway, I hope everyone will hang in there knowing the Cavalry is just over the next hill..

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

For all those who get the AMPI crashes, have you:

    - repaired permissions,

    - created a new admin user,

    - trashed media databases (and made sure that no folder in Avid Mediafiles contains more than 5000 files),

    - created a new project with same specs as the current one and moved your bins into it, important if your project was created with MC4 or earlier,

    - run /sbin/fsck -fy on your Startup disk (holding Cmd-S at boot time),

    - if in a SD project, switched to HD in the Format tab

Doing all of the above reduced my crashes from several per hour to just a couple per days. Until the fix is out there, worth trying.

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

    Hi everyone,

A couple questions while we wait for 5.0.2 and (especially) 5.0.3:  Todd, Larry, Pierre and others have suggested trashing media databases.  I want to do this but I have one concern.  Because of all the crashes I was having I created a new project, opened my sequence bin from my old project, dragged my problem sequence into the source window and then copied it from there into a new sequence in my new project.  It opened in the timeline, and I was able to mostly finish it.  Then I had to pack up all my gear and do some travelling.  I just set it all up again today and the sequence (in this new project) won't play.  I get the same "Exception: A serious error has occurred!  It is recommended that you immediately save your work and restart the system" message I got before.

So, I think I'll try rebuilding the databases.  Now my question is this: I didn't get around to consolidating the new project, so from what I gather, all my media is still in the old project.  Will this cause me any problems if I rebuild the databases?

I will consolidate, but only after I get this sequence up and running again.

    thanks for any advice,

    Malcolm

Malcolm, this is a very important clue that we should elaborate on before you delve into rebuilding media database files. It may or may not be the issue.

    Re: Exception AMPI subsystem error

Thank you Mr. Rubin for your help getting my specs involved with my questions.

Please forgive me, I am an extreme Newby!!  Here come my Novel...    Just about everything negative that I have read so far has been happening to my mac system.I have not performed any of the diagnostics that yall have wrote of yet simply because I do not know where to start or what to do.  I was hoping to follow this thread and discover the magical download that cures all.   I know thats nuts...but really, when I see or read of seasoned vets having issues with out remedy ...I am plenty worried!

On my MBP I am getting 2 similar AMPI errors (5008 and 1007), also along with the buss error and an out of memory exception and a std::bad_alloc...  now My Software activation says that my License is not valid.  What gives.  I have to physically remove the key - reboot the MBP - replace key - boot MC and then I have about 30 minutes if I crawl slowly on the timeline, NO speed cuts and edits    I am also having extremely long render and export times, what used to be minutes is hours now, really wierd

On my PC i can only open a sequence - any sequence and move on the timeline a few seconds and it goes pale and freezes. No errors no exceptions... just Task manager time. I am not able to operate on the PC at all

Are these issues related across the Mac and PC platforms, someone earlier wrote of  update 2 and 3 ??   Is that wishful thinking or is something coming soon, hopfully...    I am really scared here because I realize by just following your conversations, I am in WAY over my head as far as repairs go on my PC or Mac. And I really need to rescue this job from my Mac so I can get paid.

Thank you for your time this is my first time posting anywhere in the Avid community, I will be following what you guys are discussing, please feel free to point out anything obvious that I have overlooked.    Thanks again, Marquis
