GH5 4K 25p mp4(lpcm) 10bit or 8bit couldnt be linked by QT plugin.

I hope firmware 2.0 coming out at the end of September will solve some issues.

I'm afraid it's more of an Avid Generic plug-in problem.

Firmware 2.0, as far as codecs are concerned, only opens up other possibilities.

So the short story is:

10-bit only supported by Avid generic plug-in. No support in QT at all. Very short transcodes may work (same as XAVC-S). Long transcodes fail. In general, transcodes fail.

8-bit needs Convert to Project frame rate to transcode.

QT plug-in does not support MP4 files (which is interesting as the QT library most definitely does).

I read that the new firmware irons some issues with all the major NLE's and with Avid that Panasonic drivers

and codecs always get well. However we do as much as we can from our side to help the nonstop Avid's

programmers to do their best as they ALWAYS do.

GH5 is an affordable yet superb CINEMA camera that many will work or already are working with.

It seems that all mp4 files longer than 4-5 minutes cant be transcoded at 8.9.1 with Avid Generic plugin.

So it's not a case of GH5 files or DJI but of every H264 file.

Turning the files at DnxHD or HR resolution (with another app) can allow MC see them, link them

and transcode them.

The problem is on 4K files and not on HD.

I've heard back from support. They're working on fixing the MP4 issues. Hopefully this will cover both the transcode issue as well as the 1-frame off issues for both MP4 and XAVC-S.

8.9.22 is now released, and it fixed the transcode bug for XAVC-S, which is also MPEG-4 based. Hopefully it's fixed for the GH5 as well. I don't know about the 10-bit issue.

Bug Number: MCCET-2027. In some instances, transcoding long H.264 media using the Avid Generic plugin resulted in an exception error.

You beat me to it David. Let's try it now. Thank you for getting this bug to Avid engineers.

However this wasn't a problem with GH5 but with many mpeg4 files (DJI also).

P.S. Anyone who is using a 2000D with Media Composer but in generally on his system,

you should now that is EOL. The best replacement I think is P2000.
