Hardware Acceleration on Mac Pro "Nehalem"

    Hello,

Could somebody please clarify, what are the graphic cards that support GPU acceleration on a Mac Pro "Nehalem" for Avid MC 5 Software?

The NVIDIA GT 120 is the only card used on the approved configurations of Mac Pro "Nehalem" for Media Composer.

But from this post by Marianna, I gather that those configurations do not support GPU acceleration.

System requirements for Mac OS X state NVIDIA GeForce family cards, which means the Quadro FX 4800 for Mac is not an option.

That leaves the NVIDIA EVGA GeForce GTX 285 as only possibility... But does it work?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best,

    JDf

I'm using the EVGA geForce GTX 285 with MC4 with no problems.

    Hi,

    Thank you for that information.

Could somebody please confirm if this card supports hardware acceleration on Media Composer 5 (Software)?

And if this card is officially supported by Avid?

    Best regards,

    JDF

MC5 will not be released until June 10th. After that - let's hope not too long - the list of what is supported will follow. As Yoda would say, "Patient you must be".

    CPU - i7 2600K, GPU - NVidia Quadro 600, Ram - 8GB DDR3 1600, 500GB boot drive, 1.5 TB Storage [view my complete system specs]

    Hi,

thanks FSD, I know those documents. Unfortunately they don't answer the question.

    @ Pel2na:

do you realize that the same question applies to MC4? There's no list of Avid supported Graphic Cards for mac with hardware acceleration.

I am amazed nobody can give me an answer, this is a pretty straight forward question.

Perhaps GPU acceleration isn't relevant at all for MC (like having an 8-core system, even though those are the only ones Avid tested).

Anyway, it would be important to know that. Otherwise how should one decide wich system to buy if there's no official guide about the concrete advantages of each one?

    Best,

    JDf

P.S.: Chedga, could you please say, when you open the console, what Avid states about the GTX 285 card?
