Other than being able to see and accurately select tracks and mark complex multi tracks sequences when cutting from a seq to another, the toggle button is useful when loading a sound clip in the source window to see the waveform, please note that Audio data/Sample plot has to be enabled from the timeline hamburger menu for this to work.
With the new features in MC 5 You should reach tut 300 pretty soon...
