    Marianna:

From what I have been told, the specifications really wont change but what might is a CPU or 2 added.  We usually test the lower end and the higher end so we have a good sample across the board.

Let me check in the am and post back tomorrow with more scoop.

Re: New - 4-9-10 UPDATE - Liquid to MC Upgrade Information

    Hello all....

    Your update status for 5/13/10

    Inventory:

US/Canada/Asia Pac:   There is currently inventory available however as of this morning there were only 4 left.  We do have a shipment enroute with an expected receipt of today but it will take a bit of time to be received and added to stock.  I will keep an eye on it and report back if any issues arise that we did not anticipate.

Europe: All European online store sites have a small amount of Liquid to MC v4 inventory in stock. We do have a shipment enroute with an expected receipt of today but it will take a bit of time to be received and added to stock.

Overall...... I will keep an eye on invenotry and report back if any issues arise that we did not anticipate.

Registration:  Everyone that has received their Liquid to MC converdison upgrade must register the product in order to be eligible for the MC v5 download.  Either install the MC and register within the application ( you will receive a confirmation of the registration via email so you know you are all set) or if you do not want to install at this time, you can go to www.avid.com/register   There was a slight issue with the www.avid.com/register site which has now been resolved.

Thanks all and any questions....... ask away.

    marianna

Re: New - 4-9-10 UPDATE - Liquid to MC Upgrade Information

    Marianna,

Sorry to be a pest, but I have a few more questions before I "pull the trigger" to upgrade from Liquid to MC.

Before I ask, I wish to express my thanks to you and others who have been so helpful, and to the powers-that-be at Avid who have allowed this upgrade path for the "Liquid Faithful" to Avid MC5!

    My questions are:

    1.  Will there be a new version of the Production Bundle to coincide with the release of MC5, for example with new versions of Sorenson (v6), BCC (v7), DVDit, etc.?

         a.  If "no", will the programs from the current bundle like BCC v6 (32-bit?) still work with MC5, will the current DVDit have patches to make it compatible with the Blu-Ray 3D (stereoscopic) standard coming out this summer, etc., or will I have to spend a lot of $$$ upgrading each of these programs on my own?

         b.  If the answer is "yes"...

    2.  If there will be a new "v5" Production Bundle release with MC5, which would be the best way to get there:

         a.  purchase the Liquid to MC4 download only (no Production Bundle) for $395 now, then upgrade to MC5 and buy the new v5 Production Bundle for $195 (or $whatever), later?

         b.  purchase the boxed MC4 upgrade (includes Production Bundle) for $495, plus will there be some low-cost upgrade path for the new v5 Production Bundle direct from Avid, when it becomes available?

    3.  What is Avid's policy for having Media Composer + Production Bundle installed on multiple computers - for example Adobe allows their software to be installed on two computers, i.e. one desktop and one laptop?

Thank you ever so much in advance for your quick and reliable response!

    Regards,

    Dennis W. in Austin, Texas

Re: New - 4-9-10 UPDATE - Liquid to MC Upgrade Information

Hi, I am guessing since my promo code didn't work then that means there is no stock available at this time. Is there a way to put a order in so when stock is available then I would be first in line. I am sure it will get more busy as the time ticks down to the final minutes. Avid you might want to have a large inventory in place.

    Waiting patiently

Re: New - 4-9-10 UPDATE - Liquid to MC Upgrade Information

I don't know if this will help registerd Liquid users thinking about the upgrade, and certainly not speaking for Marianna and totally being unofficially, I have read Marianna's  posts carefully and I think she is pretty clear...

Qualified Liquid upgraders (Liquid owners registered with Avid as of March 10)  can upgrade to (buy) MC4 and only MC4 either via the $395 download or the $495 Box (which includes the Productivity Pack) - and that  order  has to occur by June 30. The download does not include the productivity pack - the Box does.

If a Liquid upgrader to MC4 wants the free MC5 software upgrade which is only downloadable, they must registered their MC4 version before downloading the upgrade  - and that download of the MC5 software-only upgrade has to occur before June 30.   And that download won't be available untl around  June 10.

So if you are a Liquid upgrader and you order the box with the productivity pack and you want the MC5 downloadable upgrade, you better make sure you get your order in way before the end of June, cause you got to have MC4 registered to download MC5, and you only have till June 30 to download MC5.

If Liquid upgraders want later versions of the Productivity Pack other than what came with the MC4 box, those productivity packs will have to be purchased through the Avid online store or from the vendors.

Let me know if this post is inaccurate or needs to be deleted.  I was just trying to help.

Re: New - 4-9-10 UPDATE - Liquid to MC Upgrade Information

Most vendors have phone numbers where you can talk to someone to place order if you don't want to use internet. I have looked on AVid site but don't see any phone number to call to order any Avid product---if we could talk to someone it would help in finding out if an item was even in stock or to resolve  issues right during the call--i.e. right promo code, etc.  Is there a phone number to use just for placing orders--not to tie anyone up answering questions but just to place order?

Re: New - 4-9-10 UPDATE - Liquid to MC Upgrade Information

The things is there are currently no box sets available and no way to say pre order. If I am wrong someone please let me know. I went to the Avid Store and tried to make my purchase but I was told the promo code was invalid. I believe this is do to the lack of inventory. Hopefully some will come in soon. I am ready to order.

    1. Don't know. But Avid usually don't change the package until a new major version of the editor is shipped.

    a. It should if history is of any indication. Avid don't usually break plugin compatibility intentionally. I have several plugins that was last updated for version 2 of Media Composer.

I doubt Blu-Ray 3D support will be added without costing more money. It is a major feature - I'm sure Sony, Sonic, etc would want to get paid.

    3. MC is serial web based activation. You can install it as much as you want but the serial can be only activated in one computer. You can deactivate and reactivate if you need to migrate the license.

    Dave:

Your assessment is correct. I would like to point out that new (March 10th or later) MC 4 owners must register their software prior to June 30th to qualify for the free MC 5 upgrade. It DOES NOT mean that MC 4 purchasers must INSTALL the software before June 30th.

And I'm sure that if unforeseen "technical difficulties" occur on Avid's end (out of stock, website server problems, etc.) on or around June 30th, Avid will make the necessary accommodations to honor their upgrade commitments to those of you who might be affected at that time. Let's hope it doesn't play out that way.

    Dennis,

The MC v5 editing software download does not come with the v5 production suite,  The app's that come with your MC v4 will work with MC v5.  If you do want to buy a new Production Suite that comes out in June when MC v5 ships, then you can do so on the web store.  As for upgrades to BCC - you will receive BCC 6 in the MC v4 kit and currently Boris offers users with BCC 6 a free upgrade to BCC 6.0.7....  future upgrades to BCC, Sorenson etc, would need to be handled via the vendor directly.

    3dwag:

    My questions are:

    2.  If there will be a new "v5" Production Bundle release with MC5, which would be the best way to get there:

There isnt a software downlaod of the Liquid to MC v4 conversion offer.  it is a physcial shipping kit only.  So you would need to buy that kit before 6/30 and register it to be eligible for the MC v5 download.  There has never been nor will there be a lower cost production suite.  You can either opt to upgrade the app's you want via the 3rd party vendor or you can buy a new production suite in June.

    3dwag:

    3.  What is Avid's policy for having Media Composer + Production Bundle installed on multiple computers - for example Adobe allows their software to be installed on two computers, i.e. one desktop and one laptop?

You can install MC on as many computers as you want BUT you can ony activate one at a time.  Once MC = One licence.  So say you have a desktop and a laptop.  You have MC instaled on each.  You launch and activate on the desktop and use it there.... then you deactivate under the special menu and go to your laptop, launch and activate there.....

HTH and always happy to answer any questions if I can.....

    Dew,

Unfortunately the store doesnt allow backorders.... you can only place an order when there is physcial stock. :(  I know - we are working on that.

    US/Canada/Asia Pac has stock.

Europe is out of stock and a shipment is on the way.....
