Hey everyone,
I don't if anyone has posted a way to get progressive frames out of Canon's 24f, but here is my workflow:
I worked with a a Canon Vixia HV30 over the weekend, and I followed these steps (beginning has been posted before)
- Created a New Project with 1080i/59.94 settings
-set raster size to 1440 x 1080
- Camera Capture settings to XGH1
- set capture format to HDV 1080p MXF
- Captured away
Second Step:
- created another project
- set it to 1080 23.97
- 1440 x1080
- copied the bin from my 1080I project to my 23.97 project
- went back to my 23.97 project
- dropped a clip on the timeline (motion effect already applied by avid)
- promoted the motion effect
- change "Type" to interpolated fields
- change "source" to Film with 2:3 pulldown
- choose "detect" under 2:3 pulldown
- and you now have full progressive frames with the intermittent interlace frame.
I just find it easier to worj with effect and photos, and not having to guess the fields, when everything is all 1 frame. I know there is more rendering involved with the the motion effect, but at least it's in realtime initially.
Salud!
If your 59.94i clips contain 2:3 pulldown that you want to remove in 23.976p,try modifying their Field Motion column in the bin to "2:3 Film" before editing. The default motion adapters will be automatically set to "Film with 2:3 pulldown"and the cadence will be automatically detected,so you won't have to promote the effects and change them manually.
If you edited the clips into a sequence before you changed Field Motion, you can update the sequence using "Refresh Motion Adapters".
Much easier - thank you!!!

I only have HDV 1080i MXF listed in the dig tool. I realize this OP is a year old. I thought someone might be able to tell me how I'd enable "HDV 1080p MXF" in a 1080i project?
Thanks
I just sent you an email. I hope it helps...I use a Gh1 and GH2 (AVCHD) via the neoscne method now.
