I have been handed two XDCam discs and have decided that I want to copy the contents of each disc into it's own Folder onto a hard drive so that I can use AMA and Link to the Volume and have a Bin created for each disc.
I started copying and all seemed to be going ok, until I received a message saying that Some of the Actions could not be copied because I don't have sufficient privileges. I checked the disc contents and some of the files are Locked. I'm unable to unlock them using the Finder Get Info.
I was wondering if anyone else had advice/experience backing up the contents of an XDCam disc to a hard drive? Have you ever encountered the files being locked? Should I not be using Finder to copy the disc contents? Why? Is there another better method for preserving the disc structure/contents and making a backup?
I'm using MC v4.0.4 (Mac) and the PDW-U1 Reader.

There's an old discussion on this here but near the bottom it looks like someone did have success using a U1 drive. The record tab on the disk isn't flicked is it?
I was unable to copy using a V1 reader, but with the camera I was able to do it. Since the camera isn't available all the time I changed my workflow and gave up using AMA permanently for the disks, just to open them and consolidate the media.
Good luck.

The alternative way to backup your data would be to consolidate the clips to a media drive, then export an aaf of the bin with the media in a folder that you could archive on a separate drive.
Or keep the disks in a fireproof safe like we do!
cheers
Good ol' Bob Russo came through for me... here's his response.
"For whatever reason, on a Mac with OS X, locked files can’t be copied to Unity, its always been that way.
Copy the Disk to a local drive and unlock the files using the finder. You’ll then be able to copy the files.
Or, use a computer running Windows."
I didn't include the bit about it going to Unity here because I honestly didn't think it would make a difference. Shows what I know.
Cool. Sounds like another one of those gotchas that you never expect with computers. Glad the solution came through, thanks for posting it.
