    Re: Windows 7

Ask yourself a simple question; Will upgrading benefit me? If there is no benefit, wait until you need to upgrade.

    Re: Windows 7

There are several threads already about users experimenting with Windows 7, if you do a search you will find them and see that results are mixed. Windows 7 is not currently supported by Avid, however that will change, but there is NO TIMETABLE for that process. Much Beta testing, de-bugging and de-glitching needs to be accomplished before Avid can certify an OS, meaning the software is guaranteed to run properly. In the course of it's history, Avid has risen to the challenge of supporting every new OS that has come along, and there's no reason to think Windows 7 will be any exception to that. In the meantime, please be patient and examine the other threads of this subject.

I can recommend Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and I loathe the Vista Home Premium installed on my laptop.  They're two quite different OS's.

If you upgrade to Vista now, Microsoft will give you a cheap upgrade to W7.  At least, I think that offer's still open.  Check.

    Re: Windows 7

I'm hoping Avid will certify Windows 7 before the start of the academic year here in Australia. I have 20 machines I would love to get off XP Pro for various reasons but not really keen on taking a risk with an OS Avid doesn't support!

Have an xw8400 running Win 7 and MC 4 just fine but I am sure students would manage to break it if I rolled out the image to all my machines!

    Re: Windows 7

cool...I'm gonna look into that. I assume I can take advantage of more RAM w/ vista-64...but will Avid be able to use more ram or is it still limited since it's not a 64bit app???

    thanks...and sorry for the thread-jack.   ;)

MC is still 32-bit.  A 32-bit app running in a 64-bit OS is limited to 4GB's RAM.  However, that's twice the RAM used in a 32-bit OS.

You should install 6-8GB's total for the 4GB's to be avail to MC,

Everyone I know that upgraded to more RAM and 64-bit says it rocks!
