    camoscato:
Depending on what version you're running (your specs say Media Composer Adrenaline HD), you may be able to AMA link to h264 Quicktimes and then transcode them.  In my experience, it's faster than importing.

I can confirm that and add that it applies to P2 files as well.

And reviewing this thread, I noticed that I escalated this back around Sept 2010 and it was logged as a bug. Can anyone find anything in the various version readmes that are relevant here which would indicate the bug was fixed?

Re: Long delay after lifting/extracting when using AMA volumes

Any news on how to fix this?  I am working on a show for a company with  in-house edit suites, Their system is MC5.0.3, with Adrenaline, running on an HPz400.  The footage is all on a 4TB G-raid connected via eSata.  The drive has just over 2TB free.

The footage is all shot on XDCAM, all linked by AMA,  compact flash (MXF) is also linked.  We also have  some Go Pro (MP4) footage, NanoFlash (.mov), and EX3 (MP4), all imported.  The sequence is only 18 minutes long.   Rendering any effect results in a 10 second lag, with the little spiral timer whirling away.  Lifting and moving around has the same effect.  Bins take a long, long time to open and close.  He has only five bins open.

I cleaned up the Attic, cleared the bin memory, switched off the indexing of files on the drives.  I imported the time line into a new project and it had the same problem.  I imported one of the XDCAM rushes bin into a new project, and created a timeline with just one clip-, added effects and it was fine, no problem.  So it seems as though its the fact that there are numerous clips on the timeline that causes the problem.

I am searching for answers to this, but so far nothng but the fact that it is an issue that has been raised with Avid.

Re: Long delay after lifting/extracting when using AMA volumes

No updates from my end... though I just had some breakthroughs using eSATA vs USB 2.0 connections.  I have yet to test AMA on the eSATA connection.  I'd also like to try some AMA linked files on an SSD to see if that helps.  Of course this would only work for smaller projects since SSD's aren't really affordable in large hard drives. ... I'll be sure to post any updates if I can.

Re: Long delay after lifting/extracting when using AMA volumes

Because it takes so long to close the bins down, the editor tends to leave them open and so ends up with many bins open.  A way round this I found was to create a new, blank, sequence and when he wants to close a bin he can open that sequence and then the bins close down as they should. The lag is definetley somtehing to do with having many AMA linked clips on a timeline.
