Hello,
I have MC 3.5 and am trying to capture some stuff that was shot at 24p. I don't want to work in a 29.97 timeline, I would like to keep it as native as possible. I can capture the footage for about 2 minutes and then I get an error, and upon playing back the media in AVID is seems to get slower (at least he audio does) as the time goes on. The video is also displaying at 29.97 frames. From searching around I have read that many people mention adjusting the pulldown upon capture in the "film and 24p" settings, however I cannot find this settings menu anyway in AVID. From what I understand this can help AVID caputre the footage correctly so it stays in "24p" and not jumping to 29.97 thus screwing things up. I look forward to your responses guys....
Hi,
Can you be a little more specific? What is your source footage, on what format is it, are you using any type of Avid hardware with your MC, what type of connection are you using to go from your source device into the Avid, what project type are you in / did you create?
When launching either a 29.97 Matchback project or a 24P project there is a small dialog box notating filmtype right belowthe project type. if you do not check it you will not see the film settings in the project's settings list.
Ok so I found the Film and 24p settings by creating a new project and checking the "film" box. However I'm beginning to think I am screwed and this is a lost cause. I still have no way to access the pulldown settings to be able to properly import the clips I need to use. I am using 3.5 Software only and I am beginning to think that I am going to need some kind of hardware based system to be able to set pulldown/pullin in when capturing video. I caputre via FireWire (currently captuing footage shot on a Canon HV30 @24p on a Canon XH-A1. It wil capture with 24 frames but will quickly get an error message about 2 minutes into capturing. Its obvious that AVID doesnt know what pulldown settings to apply to the footage to correct for the frame layout, the sound is off by about 20% or so and gets progressively slower.
Do I need a hardware based system to be able to manipulate pulldown on capture? and if so is anyone aware of third party applications that I can capture through, apply (or remove if necc) the pulldown and then bring the clip into Avid. I have pretty much yanked out the rest of my hair on this one. I need some help here guys. If you have an answer please let me know!
Thank you kindly.
Hey,
after you've made a 24p project, have you gone to the "Film and 24p" settings under the settings tab in the lower left corner of Avid (where the bin selection and effects tab are)? There, you can set pulldown and cadence.
If you have footage that's already been captured, then promote a motion effect and select source with 2:3 pulldown and then selct "detect" for the cadence.
A great third party software to use to remove pulldown is DVFilm Maker
http://dvfilm.com/maker/index.htm
I hope that helps somewhat.
Salud!
P.S. Also, there is Raylight MXFX
http://dvfilm.com/MXFX/index.htm
Thats what I wanted to do, but in the film and 24p settings tab all I see is the following options....
Master Default Film TypeMaster Default Edge TypeInk Number Default TypeInk Number Default Edge TypeAuxillary Ink Default Film TypeAuxillary Ink Default Edge Type
I see nothing about pulldown cadence. Is this because I am software only? Or am I missing something. Also I tried removing the pulldown using TMPGEnc and successully created an apparent lossless clip that AVID now sees at 23.976 (23.98) fps however when i try to import the resulting .M2Tfile I can an error from Avid citing a mismatched format. So I dont know what to do....
by the way I'm running MC 3.5 if that matters
Do you see this when you pull up your settings? Also, it doesn't matter if you aere on 3.5 or 4.04. Did you choose 23.98 also?
My current project settings are
1080p/23.976
Raster set for HDV 1440 x 1080
Here is what I see when I click on the Film and 24P settings, I wish I had that pulldown option....
After I tried using TMPGEnc to employ pulldown removal I do get a clip that Avid now sees as 23.98 (I know this because when I try to import into a 60i project, it tells me the edit rate doesnt match (23.98) however when I try to import that clip into my 1080 23.976 project I get the following error. This is driving me waaaaaaayyy past crazy....
Hmmmmm, go to your format tab and choose 720p/23.97 and see if the Film and 24 setting come up.
Have you tried the Motion effect in Avid? and Promote it to see if you can remove pulldown that way?
See if THIS helps.
peace luca
havent tried the motion effect yet. I was trying to avoid that due to how time consuming the render will be. I don't know why this isnt working, nor do I know why I am just missing some settings here. This problem just gets lamer and lamer...
I switched the project settings to 720 23.976 and now I get the following screen. An added option of Video Pulldown Cadence has appeared. I went to try and capture and all I got was a garbled mess. With these options availalbe on this project setting does this help me at all?
