So my old OS was giving me some issues (not with MC) after I upgreaded an application so I took a chance and loaded Windows 7 Professional in its 64-bit version. I was about to pull the trigger on upgrading to MC4.0 this week instead of next month but decided to load 2.8.4 and see what happened. I'll be damn if it didn't just load right up. I have not done any extensive testing or cutting yet but old projects play and a few quick edits seem to work just fine. It looks promising. The other nice thing is that there were no audio issues on launch like I had before I found a working driver for the IDT audio on the M6400. It also seems to be getting along well with IE-8. I'll keep an eye on things and post back if I run into any issues.

P.S. I edited the post title to help those searching for Windows 7 info find this more easily.
Former title was "Holy crap it worked!"
Thanks Dave. Please keep us informed of any issues you may run into.

Windows 7 is working pretty gravy over here too. The only issue is the event viewer is saying aspi32.dll, under the wow64 driver folder, is incompatible and keeps blocking it. It is installed by AVID media composer, because when I uninstall MC 4.03, aspi32.dll disappears. Also, if you just delete aspi32, then when you click on the MC shortcut a pop-up screen appears with "avid is now configuring".
However, I don't see it affecting anything with the mechanics of MC 4.03 and I thought there might be an error with importing tracks from a CD 9from the cd/dvd drive, I've read that some where) into MC, but that worked without a hiccup. AVID fx, sorenson, Sonicfire, BCC, Magic Bullet, After Effects CS3...I could list a a few more, but I'l stop - it's all working with no crashes! Just let me stay in this Shangri-la for a while more, before someone crashes it down for me.
And, as I said in another post, Windows 7 was an easy install and I haven't had any other issue any of my other post prduction software. But, I'm only running MC software with no additional hardware...SAlud!
P.S. Now if only someone could answer this question for me :

So after some more goofing around with MC and Windows 7, I found one small issue. When I go to use the Audio Suite I get the following error message. "User privileges insufficient to start a low level driver." The of course the DAE failes to load. As I am the only person using this computer and am signed on with Admin privileges, I am a bit baffled. Any thoughts?
So far this is the only thing that I can find....knock on wood.
Possibly a permissions issue. Check this procedure. Hopefully it's the same for Windows 7.
Hi Larry,
Yeah I tried that. I even updatd the driver from DELL and am now using that instead of the Windows povided driver with the same good result but still no dice on the DAE. Luckily I don't use it that much.
Ok. Just rean into another snag here. I've been working with media that I've already had loaded so I never plugged in the MOJO SDI. Windows is asking for a digitally signed driver from AVID. It won't accept the old one for some reason. I have searched and no luck finding one if they even exist. Can someone point me in a direction here so I can continue working the kinks out of the new OS? I am ordering MC 4.0 tonight if it matters.

So, to summarize this " holy crap, W7 doesn´t work " I am sure of that Avid will tell us when it works ...

I am not ready to give up on it just yet.
With Vista you can hit F8 during the boot and select an option to allow unsigned drivers. I don't know if this is true for Windows 7.
I have to agree with the spirit of Tomas' reply. This thread should have been 'Holy crap Windows 7 sort of works with a very contrained set of tests and limited hardware support... your mileage may vary'.

As I've said many times, an unqualified system may work initially, but the real test is stability and reliability in the long run - no guarantees.

Very true. While my initial experience was pretty good, things are obviously not perfect or even close to right at this point. It's a good thing I have my other desktop based system which is still fine and stable under XP Pro. At least I took the chance. It might help someone down the road. Who knows, I just may get this to work yet. Perhaps I was a little over excited when I titled the thread too as was pointed out!
I've been runnning MC4 on my completely unqualified laptop in Windows 7 Pre-Release for a few months - it's been working fine for what I've been doing, but I haven't pushed it. I have no used any DNA or DX hardware and been sticking to basic cutting and effects. I did try an Audio Suite plugin and it didn't throw any errors, but it didn't seem to do anything either - but I didn't bother to investigate.

Hi, I'm runnig MC 4.03 on Windows7. Most of it works, no problem.
The only thing I can't get right is my keyboard settings. Even if I edit them, some functions just won't work.
Like the lift/overwrite key, Quick transition and more.
Does anyone have/had the same problem?
Thanks,
Maks
This shouldn't be Windows 7 related: is Your keyboard configured for US english in the Windows control panel? With a localized (non US) keyboard function keys do not match. See this THREAD for more info. hth
