Hi ,
when i whant to select several clips on a windows system i just select one clip an then i press shift and
i select the top clip i what to select. So i get a selection of 10 clips.
On the mac version of composer i need to lasso the clips, but when the bin is very full it is diffiicult to
select the right clips.
Is there any shortcut to select the clips like i do this on the windows system ?
And why is that like this? If i swith to the finder it´s easy , i can select several clips with "shift" pushed down????
It would make me smile to find a solution to the problem....
i tested every shortcut from "alt" shift" to "ctlr shift" but i can´t find anything....
And if not: is it possible to discuss this please in the betaforum?
thanx

Why would you like to see it discussed in the Betaforum? That's for betatesting, not for new features. There's the feature request forum for that.
And I think that what you describe is MacOS behaviour.
Job, it isn't exactly MacOS behaviour, although this has always been like this on Mac Avid systems as far as I can remember.
Comparison:
Finder: To select a range: click on first, Shift-click on last; individual selection/deselection, cmd+click
Avid (on mac): To select a range; lasso; individual selection - shift click
Cmd-click gives info on clip; Shift-lasso inverts the selection on the lassoed clips (or adds to the selection if nothing is selected)
There is no other way (to my knowledge) than lassoing to select a range of clips on the mac. The Ctrl and Alt keys have no functionality when selecting (the Alt key changes the way clips open however). So this is indeed a feature request.
I agree with the original poster that this is incoherent behaviour, and an easy to implement feature request I would imagine.

Not true. At the finder (desktop) level, mac os functions the same as windows with regards to the shift key, but uses the command (apple) key instead of the control key to select multiple non-consecutive items from a list. I've never understood why avid on macs works the way it does in regards to this.
It's also a myth that macs don't have right-click functionality too! (works via control-click if you only have a one button mouse)
e2a sorry, loaded the tab when i arrived at work nd forgot to refresh before replying. Didn't mean to reiterate janusz's perfectly accurate reply.
I stand corrected.

Because it used to be that MacOS (pre-OSX and possibly pre-OS9) operated the way that Avid does now. So, Avid used that same method when writing the original code.

Ah okay. must have been pre OS9. I don't remember the behaviour on my System 7 LC.
To get back a bit to the OP's problem, there is a nice little space between the clip icon and the first column (generally the Name) that works great for lassoing. You might find it easier to lasso selected ranges of clips if you only try to lasso from that area of blank space in the bin.
it´s very interresting to see, that many editors are having the same problem, isn´t it?
Thanx to everyone for the help.
Where can i post requests ?

I use the following. I select one clip, press shift and arrow down. The selector will go down and select one line after another. Not the same but the best you'll get on mac I'm afraid.
Pol:the best you'll get on mac I'm afraid.
I'm not so sure that's the "best" method. SHIFT+lasso works very well (and fast)
Can someone please move this to the Avid Product Feature Requests forum, if it's not already there?
