    How to import footage from the Sony PMW-EX1 camera?

    I tried to export the footage with the clip browser software 1.01 to MXF files. But after import in avid 2.7.7 I got pictures with green lines. Any idea how to do it?

    You will get that result when attempting to use the 35mb resolution from that camera (not supported in Avid) Is that what you are doing?

    Can't do that. This post might help you with a workaround though

    Isn't this just for mac? I can just export to MXF, not to mov.

    The workaround you mean? Avid's non-support for 35mb is across the board.

    Probably.

    Might be an option if you have a mac around though.

    Re: How to import footage from the Sony PMW-EX1 camera?

    For now, you can use ffmpeg to convert from XDCAM EX 35 -> DNxHD

    http://www.bolanski.com/ex/

    p.s. ffmpeg can be used for other formats* -> DNxHD

    *..like divx and other funky formats.

    Re: How to import footage from the Sony PMW-EX1 camera?

    Why whould you convert to DNxHD 185x? The source material is only 8 bit..

    XDCAM EX 8bit -> DNxHD 8bit = Yes

    Isn't it better for CC? Also 185 isn't possible. Just 175. I never heard of that resolution.

    Re: How to import footage from the Sony PMW-EX1 camera?

    Here is a very Geeky and cumbersome way, but it works.

    If you use the dos command from that link insted, you can actually convert the files.

    Unpack the zip file you got linked on the bolanski page.
    Use Sony Clip-Browser, Rightclick export as MXF.
    Copy the XDCAM EX 36 file to the same direcotory
    Click Start -> Run -> (in the field type "CMD" without the quotes, klick OK)

    Here's a pretty good video of DOS basics (I didn't create it)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHeJRYgdyik

    Then go to the directory where you unpacked the XDCAM_EX_to_Avid_0.5.zip
    Type this command, modify the underlined words with your filenames for the MXF Files.

    ffmpeg -y -i inputfile.mxf -vcodec dnxhd -b 185Mb -an outputfile.mov && ffmpeg -y -i inputfile.mxf -vn -acodec pcm_s16le outputfile.wav

    This will convert the inputfile.mxf to outputfile.mov (DNxHD 185) and outputfile.wav (Audio)
    This workaround is very temporary as support for EX1 36 media will be supported very shortly. By the way you can use the same command prompt for converting
    loads of other formats. mpeg, divx, xvid, wmv and more. (I have only tested a few).
    Happy Hacking.. Surprise
