5.6.3 possible memory leak is back

    Hi Guys

Just an fyi for the (admittedly) few who suffered this on the 5.5x versions. Opened a small project (single bin) captured 20 minutes of DV, a few titles and and couple graphics and the memory use shoots up to 70% (with accompanying warning) No such problem in 4.x or early 5.x, only cropped up in 5.5 and resolved in 5.6.2. Rolled back to 5.6.2, same project sitting at 3% memory useage.

I never had the j-k-l problem, or any of the other specifics repaired in 5.6.3, so no biggy, just fyi for the code writers to take a look at what might have changed between .2 and .3

    thanks

    Tugger,
That's interesting. I did have the JKL issue. But nothing else. I just batch digged in 4 hours of beta SP, went in and did some quick effects, 3D etc. No memory problems. no glitches, system did not even seem to notice.(I;m on 5.6.3)  Huh, go figure eh? I need to dig in some DV soon, I will keep an eye on that, see if there is any common thread there. Thanks

Re: 5.6.3 possible memory leak is back

I have a similar memory problem,   but had it on 5.6.2 and now on 5.6.3 -- never had this sort of problem on 4.6

    I have a dell 340, 3.1 ghz, 1gb of Ram and a parhelia 128mb with multip[le drives.

When I open one bin the memory usage shoots up to 50-70%.  Then I try to open a second bin and it goes to 95-100% and crashes.

Is there a problem with the software? What else could it be.

Upgrading to 2GB will have a huge difference in performance.
I think they have increased the buffer size since 4.6.

Re: 5.6.3 possible memory leak is back

I had the same problem tonight with 5.6.3 and 2GB of memory. After doing some titles and lowerthird matts I tried to render and got the Out of Memory warning. Had to shut down and start up again. Is this a problem that will be fixed with a later ver. or should I buy more memory?

Re: 5.6.3 possible memory leak is back

There is a known bug with XP Pro regarding how it handles dual processors and dual core processors. It has to do with timing -- this can be a situation -- you may want to check out these articles:

    Microsoft Article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256

    Dual Core Article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909944/

There is a different handling for Dual Core and Dual processors. So read carefully. It would be good to rule out any issues. When I did the fix, it handles some issues I was having after going to 5.5.2, I am now on 5.6.3 and all is working fine so far.

    Hope this helps.
