    Help required building Edit Suite for charity!

    Hi All,

    I was hoping I could get some advice. I'm getting rid of some older equipment and I was hoping to build a full Edit Suite for a local charity. They're a arts/media centre who provide training and experience opportunites in a range of creative fields for young people from working class and lower-income backgrounds who might otherwise not have the chance.

    I was hoping to give them a suite with a recent-ish build of Media Composer and one of my old perpetual licenses so they won't be liable for any ongoing charges. Here's what I'm planning to use;

    • A z820 Dual E5-2630v2, 32GB Ram, Quadro M4000 (it originally had a K4000 but I understand this will not support any of the new interface - post 2019 - MC versions so I will swtich out).
    • The workstation currently runs Win7 Pro but I'll upgrade to Win10 Pro - I understand from a little research that this the specific build of this is important as only certain ones with with the Mojo DX which is the breakout I'll be giving them.
    Firstly - this system work? Secondly would it run any 'new' interface versions of Media Composer? Is so, can you recommend a build? I know both the z820 and the Mojo DX probably limit how recent a build would be supported. Any advice any you can offer would be greatly appreciated! Very Best, Matt

    I'd also be open to upgrading the processors for them before passing it on if anyone has recommendations and they're not too expensive!

    Take a look at this forum thread; it should help you decide what's possible.

    Also, take a look at the Readme for the various versions, which specifies compatable hardware.

    Windows 10 is EOL, support will end this year, could this be an issue?

    That's a nice cause!

    If I were setting a system up with legacy Avid I/O, I would keep it on Windows 7 and airgap the system from the internet. What if Windows automatically updates?

    You could run Media Composer 2019, make sure you install the correct Nvidia driver: Avid Media Composer Documentation and Version Matrix

    The Z820 will be more than fine for what I imagine it might be used for.
