I have a timeline of an old project filled with old AMA linked master clips that are no longer supported.
I encoded the master files to a H.264 codec that can be linked via UME and imported them into my Avid project.
Now I have two video files that are the same content but have (slightly) different names, different end time codes, and different total durations. The starting time code is the same.
I have not found a way to relink the old offline AMA linked masters to the new UME versions of the same clips.
Is it possible to relink the entire sequence from the old offline AMA linked masters to the new UME versions?
Or is it possible to relink each individual old AMA linked master to the new UME linked master in their bin?
I have not been able to do either and I refuse to believe that I'm stuck replacing each old clip individually in the timeline.
Thank you so much for your assistance!
What was the format of the old master clips that you say are no longer supported?
Assuming there's no bug in UME that's causing this, what software did you use to convert the clips to H.264?
Have you checked these new clips in another NLE to see if the these slighlty different timecodes/durations are consistant?
To be honest, I wouldn't have converted your original clips to a codec such as H.264. If this is purely for offline purposes, I would try converting to something like a low quality Prores and see what happens.

I don't understand. You converted the old master clips to a new codec in order to link them, but they have different durations now?

The format of the old .mp4 master clips are MPEG-4 with the isom (isom/iso2/mp41) codec. They show up as "can't be linked" in the Source Browser and if I try to import / encode, I get an error and the console shows "[QuickTime Plug-In] The FOURCC video code of mp4v is not natively supported."
I used Adobe Media Encoder 2024. I have not checked another NLE yet but I did discover via MediaInfo that the framerate of the old master is 23.976 (23976/1000) FPS and the encoded file from Media Encoder is 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS. This is what is causing the slightly different durations.
As for converting to a low quality ProRes, I'm fine with converting to a different codec but it should be online quality / shouldn't degrade the image of the original master. I think it will cause the same issue though unless you suggest a different program other than Adobe Media Encoder to encode with. I'm going to try a test with DaVinci Resolve and see what it does. I will also check the files in there and Premiere per your suggestion to check other NLEs for the slightly different timecodes / durations.
Personally I'd move the old media to a PC MediaComposer with QT still installed AMA link the clips via QT and transcode to a finishing codec.
Then take that media mback tot he mac. It should link to the original clips. (do a test couple of clips first)
