    NEXIS Pro - Replacement SSD

    Hello,

We have a dead SSD in one of our NEXIS Pros.  What would need to happen to the SSDs in a "spare parts" NEXIS for them to become viable to use as spares in the current in use one?

    Any advice is appreciated,

    Rory

Is the spare parts Nexis you're referring to the same 'type' as the Nexis Pro with the dead SSD?

Don't know if the drives will have the same firmware.

Are you referring the 2 SSDs in slots 1 and 2? Those are the metadata disks. They are in mirror mode (aka RAID1). If one fails, you can pull it out and replace it with a proper replacement (aka an SSD from Avid ). It can happen while the server is in use. The rebuild is automatic once a proper disk is detected. Regular disks bought from Amazon, B&H, etc will not work. The server will reject it.

    Hi Rory,

Dom is correct.  The best option for you is to open a case with Avid under your support (I hope you are still under an active support contract) and then you will get a new metadata SSD drive with instructions on how to do the hot swap.

    Cheers,

Yes, the SSD in slot 1&2.  Current in use NEXIS is not in mirror mode as disk 0 has failed.  I would of thought if I wipe the data down off the spare SSD disk and reformat it to what it needs to be (EXT2/3/4?) I could potentially hot swap it into the in use NEXIS.

I will contact AVID to see if they can help.

THank you for the replies,  Rory

Calling Avid support is the best option.  You can't just use any spare SSD and format it.

    FYI ...

Nexis starts at "0" for disk labeling purposes. So Disk 0 is the first disk. Disk 1 is the second disk.

You can't preformat the drive. It has to be completely clean or the Nexis will flag it with a "Foreign" configuration.

To repurpose SSDs from a spare parts NEXIS for current use, they would need to be properly formatted and initialized to match the configuration of the current system. Additionally, any necessary firmware updates should be applied for compatibility. Insta pro
