Hi all,
We're currently running bays with MacOS Monterey and NEXIS client 23.8.1.249. The NEXIS server is running 22.12.0.174 and Media composer is 2023.3, but this has been an issue for our teams for much longer I'm told and across multiple versions of MacOS, Media Composer, and NEXIS client versions.
For a while now, we've had issues deleting old Unity Attic folders from NEXIS workspaces on macOS computers via the Finder and it looks like it may be permission issue with the Unity Attic files.
In our Reality workflow, we have AEs "archive" the Unity Attic folders once a week by re-naming them to "Unity Attic_DATE" and moving them to a "zOLD" folder on the workspace. Ideally, after a week or two, the AEs then delete those old folders and replace them with the next archive.
However, when AEs attempt to delete the old Unity Attic folders from the NEXIS workspace, they get the error:
"The operation can't be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure "Locked" is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again."
I see the same issue with both admin and standard macOS users logged in, and regardless of the NEXIS user I'm logged in with.
However, if I open up the macOS Terminal and use the command "sudo rm -Rf /WORKSPACE/zOLD/Unity\ Attic_DATE" the folder is removed without issue.
Is there a permission setting we're missing maybe in the NEXIS console or inside Media Composer itself that would affect the abilty to delete old Unity Attic folders?
Thanks!
PS, if this should be addressed in the Media Composer - MacOS Forum instead of here in the NEXIS one, please let me know.
Hi Dklein,
Are you able to login a support case with our team regarding this? I have been chasing down Mac OS and NEXIS issues and this one sounds worthy of a case. By the way, do you have another system to test with besides a Monterey OS?
Thanks,

Thanks FerddyC,
I've opened this as a support case under case # 04701842
I can confirm we're seeing the issues with macOS Ventura and macOS Mojave bays as well, and that I can test on all 3 platforms.
For what it's worth, we were seeing the same behavior with the 2023.3 Nexis client on MacOS 13.4 when trying to delete Pro Tools project folders. These folders routinely contain several hundred (or thousand) small audio files, .ptx files, etc. and the Finder would throw that same error when attempting to delete one of these directories.
In fact, the Finder is deleting some of the contents, and there are no 'locked' files. Watch the item count on a folder as you're attempting to delete it, and you'll see the count drop. Click through the error, then delete again, and the item count drops further, and so on.
Eventually we could delete the whole folder but it just took several of these attempts.
It's a non-issue now since we gave up on Nexis with Pro Tools untli they sort out a bug w/ PT in Rosetta mode.
Hope this helps,
Ryan
Finder has never really worked for deleting more than a few to a few hundred files on Nexis. I learned to use the Terminal to do it on Mac way back in the ISIS age :)

Hi Kim,
Thank you for submitting the case. I will go take a peek with L1 support. Finder has been a challenge for sure for many years.
Be right back....
I sometimes use a little Mac utility named 'Trash It!'. It reliably got rid of ISIS files and folders that would not delete using the usual normal procedure. HTH.

Noticed this MacOS error as well when trying to delete any nested folder with large numbers of files on a Nexis workspace using a Mac. Isn't specific to just the Attic folder. Can be any folder with hundreds to thousands of nested items. Problem doesn't exist on Windows. Only work around is to open up the nested folder and delete items directly, maybe a hundred or so at a time.
Is it a MacOS bug or a Nexis Client bug?
