    UHD 25p to HD1080 50i

Can I ask the group how are people getting from UHD 25p to HD1080 50i.

HDCam 50i is the delivery spec. (Unfortunately)

At present the best way seems to be make a UHD25p mixdown.

Switch the project to HD1080 25P and do another mixdown.

Then switch the project to HD1080 50i and export.

Is there a better way to do this?

Going straight from the UHD25p Mixdown to HD1080 50i producers a less than ideal result.

    Thanks in advance.

Could you elaborate on the 'less than ideal result"?

Have you tried doing this in Davinci Resolve from the UHD25p mixdown?

HP Z800, HP G9 Fury, SonnetFusion RAID, Mojo DX, Decklink 4K, Ultrastudio 3G, Symphony 2018 & 2022, Boland BVB25 OLED, JVC DTV1910 HD CRT, Eizo ColorEdge... [view my complete system specs]

    Hi Bruno

On close inspection of the pictures coming from the UHD25p mixdown to a XDCam50i have what look like interlace errors particularly evident in text.

We found if you first do a HD25p mixdown then make the interlace file from that, those errors dont appear.

it was mentioned earlier and its more like a limitation now than a bug so iim pasting from old thread

    your worrkaround is ok

if u want get rid of one step just lower the project raster size to hd progressive make a mixdown and then change it to interlaced and make a mixdown to delivery codec

    • ➤  Bug Number: MCCET-3702. Image Quality issues when adding UHD progressive clips to an HD interlace sequence:

The process Media Composer uses to mix and match video formats in a sequence is to transform the source clip's frame rate and frame layout to meet the project specifications; the motion adapters are added first, then spatial adapters are applied in order to provide expected playback dimensions.

For example, if you have a UHD 50p clip that you want to add to a 1080i Timeline, the UHD clip first gets split into 2 separate fields (UHD format), then each field gets independently resized to 1920x540 in HD. The export process puts those resized fields back together into a progressive HD frame but does not maintain the clarity of the original progressive frame.

      1. Workaround: If you first transcode the UHD progressive clip to HD progressive and then add the HD clip to the interlace sequence, it forces the resize operation from UHD to HD to be done before the split gets into interlace mode.
