Odd Linking problem - Part 2

More on my botched consolidated project....

I have a project that was consolidated but that crashed at the very end of the procedure.  I have the media, but not the newly generated sequence. I was able to construct a valid sequence by relinking the consolidated media to the original sequence.

    Almost ....

While all the media is online in the sequence, I do NOT have master clips for Titles (made in the old title tool) or Matte Key clips.

If I copy the master clips from the original project and try to relink them via the "Selected Items in all open bins" route I get nothing new.

And when I Show Reference Clips in my reconstructed sequence, it does not show the Matte Key clips which DO exist in the sequence.

This is NOT the end of the world, just annoying and it seems as if I should be able to accomplish this.

    Ideas?

Does "Recreate Title Media" help in this case?

Re: Odd Linking problem - Part 2

Well, maybe I am not describing the issue well enough.

For titles, there are titles in the sequence.  There is media there.  I can see it.  But there is no master clip any where that relates to that title.  So to answer your question (if I understand it) there is no master clip to select and to "recreate".  And really, I do not NEED to recreate the title media - it exists.  But if I did need to, I would be screwed.  So I am being careful not to poke the bear to hard with this project.

    Does that make sense?

Yes, I see what you mean. You would need a title master clip in order to Recreate it. I forgot how that tool worked.

I assume that you have tried to locate the title's mxf media in Media Tool and then see if dragging it into a bin would create a masterclip (similar to what would happen with dragging normal masterclip mxfs into a bin)?

Are Matte keys prevomputes or titles or masterclips as far as MediaTool is concerned?

Do you think these might be "Orphan" files that live in a kind of limbo? This is an area of MC I never understood.

Hi Jef, you are talking of old title tool-T-clips, correct? Go to the bin holding your sequence, hamburger menu BIN DISPLAY there you can choose which clips are displayed you can use that f.e. to see a quick overview of all masterclips related to your seq There you can also choose to display effects, mattes and titles Then drag them to your FXbin. Other possibility with much more manual work would be to store a subseqence clip of every title in your seq, rename it properly, then you can use them to cut them in elsewhere and/or alter them HTH j

Interesting and potentialy useful, except I am not on Interplay.  And I do not think that there is an Orphan Media folder on non-Interplay systems.

I understand how to use the BIN DISPLAY for regular media clips.  I am not sure what you are suggesting for a Matte Key.  No Matte Key or Title Tool master clips are revealed when I select Show Reference Clips.  If I select Precompute Clips - Titles and Matte Keys, I get a different type of icon.

I am also not sure what you mean by FXbin.  Dragging the icon noted above to an empty bin gives me a warning message and shows nothing.

And just to be clear, historically, dragging the .mdb file into an empty bin has never shown the Master Clips for Matte Keys or Titles.  They seem to be a special case.  As seen by the infamous "Can not load Precomputes to the Source Bin" when you try to match frame a Matte Key clip.

I wonder what would happen if as a test, you re-consolidated a small sub-sequence pulled from your relinked sequence, to a separate drive, without deleting original media. Would it populate a bin with the title and matte key masterclips that are now missing? Should you do it in a separate test project?

    One last idea:

You mentioned that there was a crash during a Consolidate, right? That may mean a normal process may not have completed-- perhaps a clean-up?

Is there any chance your now working MXF folder still contains two viable mxfs for each title or matte key? This might be hard to track down, but an mxf file's date could be a clue.

Good idea.  I tried that and yes, I now have Master clips and media (on another drive).  I can obviously replace the mystery media with these.

As another experiment I tried linking these new Masterclips to the original sequence media.  No luck.

Yet another good idea. But much harder to experiment with.  This a BIG show.  Lots of media clips.  So finding the Masterclip-less media would be really difficult.  As I now have a workaround (thanks again) if I really need it, I think I will let this bear slumber.  Alot more work to do.

I'm glad if any of that helped.

I suppose you tried a Reverse Selected Clips in the Media Tool (set to display only pre-computes, titles) , to isolate any ssuspect mxfs from a Select Media Relatives sift on your relinked sequence. In a pc, MC-locked clips appear in their folder with a specific "attribute", different from unlocked mxfs. Not sure about Mac though.

Or, perhaps you could you re-consolidate using a full copy of your entire project's mxfs, leaving your existing Sequence and its mxfs untouched.

    good luck.
