Anyone "in the know" care to weigh in?
I mean, someone had to ask.

Hi mcdannyj,
No ETA yet but I already asked the team internally. We will surely post it once we got an official statement.
Thanks,
Ajay
I very reluctantly and grudgingly installed Sonoma even though I know I shouldn't have. This is because in the past everytime Apple releases a new OS, Avid takes forever releasing a new version of Media Composer that is compatible with the new OS. By the time one is released, Apple will have already released an update to their new OS, making that incompatible with the new MC release. And as far as I know, going back to the first release of Apple's new OS isn't an option once an update comes out.
Also my brother told me there are tons of viruses, randomware, malware and phshing out there targeting Apple computers and that installing new OSs once they are released reduces my chances of getting infected.
Don't keep us in suspense, Andrew. How is MC 2023.8 running on Sonoma so far?
It seems like Avid has been supporting new macOS releases much more quickly in the last two years than before. If memory serves (and it doesn't always in my case), it took less than a month for Ventura to get the OK.
Apple does release point updates for older OSes to address security issues, too, so upgrading to the latest isn't always necessary, but the temptation can be great to sync up new features with other Apple devices.

Well, I was able to open both MC and my previous project with no issue. I haven't had a chance to work on it though.
Hi everyone.
I can not open MC in OS sonoma...
.... permission denied ....
:((
I am also currently using my macbook on the side of the post house imac where i edit my current project (mainly for syncing scripts etc).
besides that i had to delete the titler plus plugin to even start media composer no issues yet with that project.
it is relatively small (a show with 2 shooting days AB CAM) and DNxHD SQ Proxies.
no big crashes yet.

Mac OS Sonoma is currently not qualified on Media Composer. Please see the KB article below.

Avid Media Composor compatibility aside. I've seen multiple issues with the Sonoma update. Even to the point of having to do a complete wipe and reload of the OS. Feels like a rushed release. I think it's best to hold off with Sonoma until it hits a .2 or .3 release.

One thing that I like about Avid is that they make tons of tests to make sure everything is working. Of course, I would prefer a speedier process, but it is far better than running into trouble.
Oh and Andrew, these are the good days. The first Avid system I used was Meda Composer 6.5.3 PCI AVBV, as part of the Media Composer 900 system. Back then, you just couldn't upgrade the OS.

Yes… there are mac-targeted viruses and all that creepy stuff. Fortunately MacOS itself is very secure and has tools to avoid them. Always be careful with what you install and execute. I, myself never used an antivirus on a Mac and I never got infected. I don't even worry about it.
Botom line: the important thing is that the system works. Although I feel tempted, I never update my OS until all my working tools are compatible with it. These are what defines what OS I install and not otherwise.

Now this can be scary!… and break your workflow.
I never, ever, update to a version .0 of any OS.
