Re: Go fund me page to update Avid Classic title tool to 64 bit?

Strangely enough, I still use Marquee on the PC and it still works. It's not particularly fast, but it's possible to do a 4K title with it (that's a custom setting). A lot of my old project files were done using Marquee. I don't think Marquee still works on the Mac.

For normal titles, I use Resolve for basic titles, and for more advanced titles I use Blender for 3D and render a composite.

Wow, that's great to know. Are you able to export a 4K or UHD .psd or .png with Alpha in your PC  Marquee workflow?

EDIT: just tried it and it works....you are brilliant.

If it were up to me (and it isn't), I'd recompile Marquee as a 64-bit application and then export that out to both the PC and Mac versions of Media Composer.

I can kinda, sorta see Avid's point that if they simply updated the old title tool functionality to 64bit we'd all be here complaining about all the things it doesn't do.

Look how far we've come that we're wishing for that.

    Smrpix,

Give that thought another one. Many have asked Avid to speed up development but all of us understand that effectively we are asking them to put more resources into design and development. The costs of those extra resources will of course need to be paid. And I assume most of us would pay if that process was a 3 steps forward 1 step back process. But when that process becomes a 3 steps forward 2 steps back or even worse 2 steps forward 3 steps back with all the products and integrations media composer has to work with, this becomes a different ball game.

Nobody wished for Avid to leave products as-is. But I most certainly never saw anybody ask Avid to release updates and new features that did not receive the same amount of resources as previous versions (at a lower cost).

Why not just make a 2 stage title tool like the previous classic tool. An extremely simple title tool (ie classic title tool- yes I know it works on PC)  which you can be promoted to Titler+ if you need to or do not crash with Titler +.

BTW I have heard talk about resurrecting Marquee title tool please no. I still don't know what an .XMP file is and Marquee wasn't the easiest thing to use. And make it easy to unpromote if you want. No I am not very smart please make an appropriate title tool for me.

Lots of great suggestions for thisrd party apps to use for titles but that's a real pain and every time you need to make a change so much work.

Have I been missing it or has Avid been commenting here?

    Thanks

Well Boris Title Studio is always available. I like the thought process behind title plus, just not sure why there are so many issues with it.

Seriously are you suggesting spending $107 per month for Boris to solve this simple problem. Ya great thought process to bad it doesn't work but the thought process is good. Keep on thinking Avid.

where did you get title studio was $109 a month? lol. You can deal with titler plus or you can find a solution. Go with newblue if you like, or use photoshop. Many people are probably paying for it anyway.

Why should I pay a penny for a 3rd party title tool? Also If I share my bins with other avids they have to have the same app and all have to pay. The idea of paying for a third party app for something that should be so simple is rifdiculous.

I already have Photoshop and premiere if I want a third party app with whisch to make a title for Avid. I don't need to spend anymore.

Ugh.  I had a client on PC who sent Marquee titles for me to deal with on Mac.  Fonts NEVER lined up, other issues as well.

Avid's title tools have been dead to me for years.  Price of doing busiess.

I have always felt avid doesn't give a rodents behind about Mac users since Final Cut Pro came along some years back. Am I wrong? If this were a PC problem and PCs couldn't play 32 bit programs I guess Avid would trip over themselves to fix title tool. Avid you should be ashamed this has gone on so long. Thanks

Um ok. good for you. Heck you don't have to use Avid at all. It was just a suggestion, wasn't personally directed at you and if you're using photoshop for titles, you're already using a 3rd party tool that you are paying for anyway. So you're saying you just don't want to use another one, that is integrated inside avid, got it.  I don't think anyone is disagreeing the tool should be up to par but its not, so people need options. Thats it, enjoy your day.

Re: Go fund me page to update Avid Classic title tool to 64 bit?

I somewhat agree with you.  It feels like MC is developed on PC, by PC users, and then "ported" to Mac.  So any issues with the Mac side are sort of "insulated" by another level of coding – making it harder for Mac problems to get remedied.  In my discussions with tech support, it seems like they don't even understand how Mac OS works.

It's disappointing for sure, but I think it's more a function of the way they've designed their development rather than a conscious choice of favoring PC users of Mac users.   This is how it seems to me –– I'm not positive I'm correct.

This is incorrect. Media Composer is a single binary. The app is designed agnostic of preference towards any OS platform, and then it is deployed equally for Mac and PC. Apple has made the deployment trickier over the last few years, whereas Windows has many things in its code that allow for some of the legacy codework in Media Composer to pass through without any blockers. Hence why the classic Title Tool still works perfectly fine inside of Windows. Windows allows it to work, whereas Apple has written all of its new code to forbid the classic code. Hence why this whole time it has been an impossible venture to simply "upgrade" the classic Title Tool.
