AVID Remote Work; MAC and PC at the same time

    Hello AVID family.

I was recently hired for a gig which is on PC. We have to edit remotely via nexus for the initial few months. I own a MAC studio but the gig is on PC.

My first obvious question is, can I continue to collaborate with the AVID PC setup through my mac studio or do I need to buy a PC? If yes, which laptop would you recommend?

Second question is how different is AVID on PC than MAC?

Thank you all. I would appreciate your insights.

    Regards.

Do you mean you're going to be remotely operating an edit suite in another location using your home computer, or do you mean you're going to be remotely accessing material on a shared storage system from your home edit suite?

Yes. I will be collaborating with the team remotely. the project is set up on PC. I ahev a MAC. My question is if it is remote work do I need a PC on my ennd as well or a MAC would suffice.

Which of the following scenarios most closely matches what you are doing?

    1. The edit suite is in a remote location. You will be operating the edit suite remotely using your home computer.

    OR

    2. The edit suite is in your house. The material you are editing is in a remote location. You will be editing using the edit suite that is located at your house.

Have you discussed with the company who hired you what equipement they say you are going to need? My company does this daily and when I reach out to the new hires and explain the process we use, many go "ohhhh, I had no idea that's how it worked." So, I would start by asking the company what they need you to have.

camoscato The first Scenario suits me. Any thoughts?

If they're using Jump Desktop as a remote access solution, that works seemlessly between Macs and PC's. You won't know the difference using MC. Only the OS looks different.

And ck123 is right. The rental company is most likely happy to assist.

Normally it will not be your choice. The vast majority of remote editing work on  Avid is either Teradici or Z Central, both now owned by HP. The client software is both Mac and PC, regardless of the facility adoption, here for example, that would be 95% PC. A huge amount of editors, working this way have Macs here also, without issue.

If you are required to operate your own MC locally, then there are currently only two methods, I know of (Discounting Edge for the moment, which will require you to have an enterprise licence on 2022.10): They send you drives (very impratical for large series); Or by using Quadrus (https://quadrus.tv/storage), again there is client software for both PC and Mac.

In any case the facility will and should send you a detailed method/workflow sheet and log on, for connecting and editing remotely and will support you throughout your work.
