    Importing 4K video

I have a Sony AX-100 4K vidoe cam recording at XAVC S 4K.  I cannot import the video files into a 1080 P project.  I then tried to create a 4K project and again the files would not import.  When drag and drop or point to the file using the import panel nothing happens.

Should MC be able to import and convert the 4K to my 1080 format?  What video resolution settings do i need when i try to import using a 4K project?  MC version is the 2022.4.

Camera file is an MP4 copied from the memory card.

Does the mp4 link? If so, you could link it and then transcode it to whatever resolution you would've used in the import. The resulting media is the same.

Linking & transcoding is faster, as it takes advantage of modern processor architecture that importing doesn't.

for this codec you will probably need XAVC S AMA pugin from Nablet to connect directly to MC. Unfortunately, it is paid.

A free solution is probably to use DaVinci Resolve to create the desired codec.

I used a plugin for XAVC -S awhile ago and I do not think I paid for it - Now I see it is 89 pounds I think.  I will check and see which one I am using.  It might have been Drastic plugin.  Either way it works well.

Likewise, shutter encoder is a fantastic free tool that will let you convert these video files into a format Avid can read.
