Do the drive Chassis for the NEXIS have a built-in raid controller or is that done through the server? They conenct to the server via a direct fibre link. We are decommisioning a NEXIS system and was curious if the drive units could be used with a standard windows server machine.
Thanks,
Scott
The Nexis (Pro, E2 & E4s) "RAID" is done through the controller, which is a self contained Linux based computer appliance.
The drives can be removed and used for other purposes. However, the controller has only one purpose.

Thanks, so can it be configured as a standard alone raid unit without the AVID software to configure it? I want to use it a direct attacherd storage to a windows server. That make sense what I am asking?
If you are talking about the Avid Nexis chassis with drives - no. If you involve the Nexis chassis and controller, your only access to the drive is through the Nexis server software and Nexis Client Manager app.
You would need to move the 10 drives to a different RAID chassis in order to access as a direct attach storage.
