Thanks for the heads-up!
There also appears to be issue with some AMD 6000 series drivers in 12.3
Best,
J
I just updated to 12.3 and ran into a problem with ProRes Raw not working on 2021.12 and came across this post. Glad I at least found this before I tried to install an older version of MC. Kicking myself because I should have known better than to upgrade. Any idea on when the next version of Media Composer will drop?
Any idea when this will be fixed??? Need it.
When the next version of Media Composer is released, it may contain the qualification of macOS 12.3. Testing is looking very good, but it is still underway.
All should be aware that 12.3 has significant GPU drivers issues with AMD 5000 + 6000 series cards as well. Apparently, Mac Pro isn't affected.
Any ETA on a MacOS 12.3 compatible version of Media Composer?
Nope. ETAs can't happen because the teams are going through their sprints & codewriting, as well as the subsequent exhaustive testing by staff, beta testers, and moderators. When it's ready, this group will be the first to know.
I understand that there is a lot of testing needed before releacing a new version because of legal stuff. But...
Wouldn't it be possible to just fix the installer of 2021.12, testing the specific functions of the new code that replaced its Python predecessor, calling it 2021.12.1 and still officially just support macOS 12.1 so peaople running 12.3 at least have a chance to install Media Composer on their own risk? I mean communicating it's official incompatibility would prevent legal problems, right? (I'm from Switzerland, so I don't exactly know the American legal system).
In my case I was sitting at home with my brand new laptop running 12.3, waiting for covid to leave my body and not being able to work on my short film...
Something that I don't undertand is that Avid didn't see the boot of Python coming... Why waiting for so long to replace old code if it's done so quickly anyways? Isn't there someone in the team spotting future problems? I mean it was the same with 32bit in Catalina... I really wish Avid would be a little more far-sighted as it would prevent a high amount of unnecessary stress on both sides and it would counteract the image of being outdated constantly. I know a lot of indipendant filmmakers staying away from Avid because these issues they don't understand as other companies just fix them the next day.

Being an independent filmmaker myself for 30 years, I'm very happy to point those people towards Premiere, Final Cut, Resolve, or even Vegas or Edius. Getting a film done is top priority for filmmakers, and that will never come into question.
However, of all of those NLEs I just mentioned, none of them make enterprise-level shared storage ecosystems that handshake with their NLEs. In fact, Avid makes its NEXIS shared storage system to handshake with Premiere.
Giving users the ability to install any version of our software "at their own risk" will never be a policy Avid allows. We are too relied upon to make sure our software and hardware works - forward compatible and backwards compatible.
