On Mojave (I know its QT7 based and 32bit) I could easily import a M4a voice memo from a iPhone 12, or a MP4 file from Adobe Media Encoder (just a standard Youtube Facebook format) or a Mp3 file from a VO Artist.
But now I can't use the import function to do that, nor can I just drag it into the bin, I have to go to the SOURCE BROWSER, and then choose import, and then it pops up a message saying the file isn't supported, so then I have to click yes to convert it then it places it into the bin.
How can I make it so these super simple file formats that are coming out of Adobe 2021 and an iPhone 12 , or even Adobe 2015 and an iPhone 6, all go into AVID fast like the Mojave 2021 AVID supported just fine like all AVID's before.
Everything else works great, I can drag a OP1A MXF into the bin, I can drag Pro Res and DNX and Quicktimes like that into the bin or import, everything works but why not simple viewable quality files?

As you mention in the first part of your post, Catalina and later MacOS no longer supports 32-bit apps like Quicktime, and that obviously has an effect on import in Media Composer.
If you look at 'MacOS Catalina support' and 'Avid Universal Media Engine' in the What's New document for 2020.4, this issue is addressed in more detail.

Yes but is there a way to make it so its super easy to just drag stuff in and have it convert on the fly to the UME/MXF? I mean still in Premiere 2022 I can drag anything in the bin and it'll work and play. AVID 2021 on Mojave did the same. So on Catalina how it can it be such a step back that you can't drag in or import simple formats in one step? I would understand complex formats, but these are standard things that have been around forever.
It'd be like in Microsoft Word 2022 if you couldn't open any old word files or text files without converting them first and then bringing them in.

Mojave supports 32-bit apps, like Quicktime. Catalina doesn't.

The first thing to try is linking and transcoding. If the files link, transcode them to whatever resolution you'd use if you were importing.
I don't know of a way to link & transcode in one step. You can OPT+drag files into a bin to link them, but you'll still have to select them to transcode them.
THANK YOU!
I was having the same issue pretty much on mac os monterey + Avid 2022.7
(both recently upgraded, not sure that was a great idea!)
The source browswer was not recognising mp3s... or wavs (when I converted them)...
just showing up as unrecognisable CLIPS that would not link or import (or drag to import0.
BUT DRAGGING+OPTION as per your suggestion WORKED:
I don't know of a way to link & transcode in one step.
*** You can OPT+drag files into a bin to link them, but you'll still have to select them to transcode them. ***
(Then I transcoded them all - solid, phew. was very worried I couldn't import audio any more on the new AVID!)
