    Re: Alternatives to titler+ ?

    Mercer:

It's really dead simple for me on this one single issue - if Avid haven't sorted this fruitless frankestein of a title tool by Sept, this year, then there is absolutely zero chance of further subscription on my perpetual licence, for it would be pointless and meaningless. Just one small customer but there you go - get your act together please Avid!

I didn't renew my peretual license in December. I figured when I see some major feature updates then I would just do the annual subscription. Dockable tool pallette and grid snaps just isn't features I need.

I'm still confused how grid snaps is a new feature. Isn't it just for all intents and purposes the exact same thing as Fill Window? If I want to align my thumbnails I just do that?

I suppose it makes it easier to move clips around in your bin and have them snap to the grid while you move those clips around rather than hitting Fill Window. Not a feature I'd use often tbh.

If you're on MacOS, might I recommened Apple Motion?  It's a one time purchase of $50.00, in which you can make titles fairly easily with "behaviours", and export the title as a movie file.

    Hi

Since I Initiated that thread, let me explain the solution we opted for. Boris effect suite was available on the machine we used so we decided to use BCC Title Studio. I had to watch some tutorials and understand the way it worked but after some practice, it's OK.

That tools gives me to what I needed : Precision, stability and flexibility. I can put any character in the exact place I choose and find it there when I comme back later. I can produce, control and easily modify a credit roll/

Il tried to use more advanced fonction, trying to combine 5 titles I have to make move and fade. It was a disaster and I had to go back on the way I used the legacy title tool : 1 title - 1 effect.

There are still some strange things : everytime I enter into the roll to change something I have to reposition the start and end position. But I can deal whith that.

Finally I recommend that solution to anyone facing the same problem. (as long as you already own the Boris suite which is very expensive!)

    Re: Alternatives to titler+ ?

I came to the same conclusion. BCC Title Studio is way overkill for me as I normally just used Title tool for slates and temp graphics which are later replaced by the graphics department - BUT - I found I could just delete the default 3D set up and use FLAT TEXT without lighting. I then save this effect to a bin and  1.) it's easy to modify text with good formatting control, 2.) renders nicely in all resolutions and 3.) seems to be very stabile.

If Boris would make a version without all the fancy 3D stuff and focus on a simple 2D version streamlined for simplicity they would have a winner as a Title Tool replacement.

Actually OVER threee years ago - it was introduced in version 2018.12. This past December I did not renew support for my last remaining perpetual license. Should Avid introduce something that I could use, like a robust, workable titling tool, I can always subscribe, and I'll just retain my dongle license at 2021.12. After 29 years as an Avid (multiple) system owner, and 31 as a user, I will migrate to another, more integrated editor with decent titling capabilities, better color correction and manipulation, and expanded audio capabilities. And although the premature release of Titler+ should never have happened, it's the fatally delayed response to the illogical interface, tragically slow and inconsistent behavior, and inability to quickly modify and share templates over projects that's been killing Avid for me and others with its Titler+.

Yeh, but it requires macOS 11.5.1.

As an offline broadcast editor, all I need from a title tool is to put things in like VO that hasn't been recorded, or "establishing shot here". Meaning all I want is my titles centred horizontally and vertically in a way that's consistent and easy to change. Haven't found a way to do that in Titler+ that isn't a nightmare.

What about the subcap tool, or timecode generator? Just an idea.

I know this is going to be hard to believe but Avid has responded to client feedback in making Tile + and what you ask isn't seen as important.

The concept of the old title tool wasn't deemed suitable for the new generation of Avid users.

Editors cutting that only need a simple quick and easy titling solution and that type of Post business aren't part of the new vision.

Even the title master clips that creating titles produced (making it so simple to save and re-purpose common titles) was dropped as unwelcome.

The best we have is as Philip suggests the Sub cap tool or the Timecode generator (notes field) but wh knows maybe Timecode will become unfashional in the future......

    Hi Pat,

I am still on v2021.6, finally trying out its Titler+ with interest. Please tell me if this is what you mean when you say "dropped".

In the legacy Title tool, when I use "Save As" , I get a pre-compute masterclip placed in my bin and it auto-loads into the Source Monitor. Later, I could Ctrl+double-click the clip in its bin, opening up Title tool  (or promoting to  Marquee), to edit the title. I was used to that.

In this version of Titler+, it seems I would have to drag the effect icon from the editor, into a bin.  Later, Ctrl+double-clicking on it from the bin isn't doing anything-- not on my version.

I cannot seem to load or drag that title cllip into the Source Monitor to see the graphic-- though I can drag from the bin & drop the FX onto a clip on the timeline. Or onto an empty track section... then I can see the graphic.

*I was able to Sub-sequence the Titler+ clip from the timeline, dragging it into a bin to rename it, then load it in the source monitor, where I can see it. Is there a better way to view completed Titler+ clips? I do see I can change my bin view setting from text view to see its thumbnail-- but I rarely work outside of text bin view.

Is that what you were refering to?  and is that still the way it currently functions in v2022.4? Otherwise, I like what I am able to make using Titler+.

    Re: Alternatives to titler+ ?

I see in all the tutorials etc how to make boffo lower thirds with Titler +. I just want to make simple things like "Scene Missing" etc. and put them in a bin for continual use. How does one do that with Titler +. This task is simple on old Title tool It is a drag to go to another app to do it. The only way I see to get tiler + to work is to mark an in and out and do a lower third. How do I make a stand alone card ? I do not own a PC nor will I ever. Is it out of the question to make the old title tool 64 bit ? Is that a gigantic expensive operation ? I hate having to go into premiere or photoshop to make a simple title card.

    Thanks Gang
