"Too long to be played" error

I put together a bunch of Audio clips imported from one card and I got the error "The sequence or one of it source elements is too long to be played"

I cut the timeline down and things started playing, but I wan't able to figure out what the limiting factor is for future projects.

Is it 12 hours?  If so, why?  Time code goes up to one frame shy of 24 hours.

What about for the raw footage?  Is that also 12 hours?  If I get footage from a live feed that is say... 3 days long, will it play in the preview monitor?  If not, how would I edit it?  Cut randomly at the twelve hour mark and make subclips?  Can I make sublicps from something where the origianl footage is over 12 hours?   Is footage that is over 12 hours entirely unusable?

Check to see if you have any clips where the time code goes over the 24 hour mark back to 00:00:00:00.

None of them do, but I can see how that would create a problem.  Thanks for the heads up.

That's an interesting point.  If you are shooting a concert or something and you are using true time time-code to synch all of your camras, what do you do if you go past midnight?   The clips might be only five minutes long, but you might run into this error.   Do you have to use another app to sycnch the clips and rewrite the timecode?

I've done multi camera shoots over midhinght. You just chose freerun TC but set it to start at a different hour like 01:00:00:00

If knowing the relationship to realtime is important then make sure the minutes seconds match realtime just offset the hours.

Re the sequence length what was your sequence start timecode? If it was 10:00:00:00 then you have already used 10 hrs up.

Turn on PlayLength Toggle and this error should go away. You can find this in the command pallet under the "Play" tab. Drag the toggle button to one of your record side buttons and click it to activate it. This makes Avid only look a certain amount before and after the play head so it won't notice that you have a 24 hour long timeline.

    Great ideas!! Thanks!

Do we know thie limitations of time?  Is it 12 hours or was that just my experience?

I seem to remember it being 12 hours but if you need to know then just whack down 11 hours and 59 minutes of footage and then 12 hours and one minture of footage and see what happens.
