MC 2021.6 Unable to Edit Effects

After updating to MC 2021.6 on macOS 11.4 (Big Sur) clicking into Effects mode produces a blank Effects Editor window.  If I restore the default workspace, I am able to edit the effect.  Click out of it, though, and the issue returns.

That's a good idea, but alas, that does not solve the issue.

Re: MC 2021.6 Unable to Edit Effects

Thre has been a couple of changes to the way Workspaces behave in 2021.6 which have caused this.

Firstly, "clicking away" from an effect - onto the TC track, for example - now closes the Effect Editor in the Effects workspace, whereas it used to leave it open but go blank. You are, however, still in the Effects Workspace.

This then combines with an Interface setting that has been introduced to allow you to choose how Workspaces are recalled.

The default, Load the last known state, means that even if you reselect the Effects workspace, it is recalled as you last left it, with no Effect Editor displayed. So now you can't re-edit your effect...

This is an example of the law of unintended consequences kicking in!

Alt/clicking the Effects Workspace will bring you back to the Saved state - ie Default - so brings the Effect Editor back. Or selecting "Load the last saved state" makes MC work as it used to previously.

The intention of this change was to make Workspaces work "Premiere" style, and in the main it's welcome, I think, but this aspect of it is not helpful!

Thanks for the information regarding the redesigned workspaces in Media Composer.  It is my understanding that if you select a clip that has an effect applied to it and then enter Effects mode, the effect or effects are then editable.  That does not happen on my system; the Effects Editor is blank.

I initially had the same problem you describe with 2021.6. But since fiddling with that Interface setting it has come good, so I think the two are mysteriously related...

Thanks so much!  I've been away for a few days, and only just now had a chance to try that solution.  Selecting "Load the last saved state" in the Interface settings does indeed make the workspaces in MC work as expected.  I'd read that section in the "What's New" documentation, but it didn't make much sense to me... until you explained it.

Re: MC 2021.6 Unable to Edit Effects

This really bugged me in 2021.6 and I hoped it would have been fixed in 2021.12 but it hasn't. Please change the default setting to have "Load the last saved state" selected in future releases?
